I LOVE this game, and not only because I am a Phantom fan. It's such a brilliantly story driven game and so open in plot and exploration. It's just brilliant. It remains not only one of my favorite Mega Drive games but one of my favorite games PERIOD!

Awesome review! I just read the article in Retro Gamer #50 about your site and thought I'd check it out. I'm a big retro gaming fan but also a HUGE Phantom fan, I actually run a Phantom fan site!

Phantom 2040 is my favorite 16 bit game next to Street Fighter II: Championship Edition, not only because I'm a fan of the character but just because it's so much fun to play. All maps to explore, the various weapons and different paths you can take. I used to tell my friends it's the granddaddy of Deus Ex and such games. I love it!

Good points there -- thanks for the comment.
I guess color palette isn't everything, but some people think that's pretty important.

Very nice review. Good to see another Super Metroid fan, too. ;)

Looking at the screenshots, the Genesis version looks superior, in my opinion. The SNES has that smoothness about it that is comparable to when you put on glasses and everything looks clearer behind a screen. The Genesis version looks like that screen has been taken away so it looks like you are actually there.
That smoothness seems to work much better with RPG games, though, as it isn't so much like you are there controlling them moreso than you are watching a movie.

See you next time.
