DS Shooter Sequel: Nanostray 2 Details Emerge
The original Nanostray was one of the first decent 3rd party Nintendo DS games that wasn’t a port of an N64 game. It also happened to be an old-school shmup.
From the initial details that have been leaked about the game, Nanostray 2 is will supposedly introduce many new features and improvements in addition to elements which have never been used in its genre.
Cubed3 has posted an interview with Manfred Linzner (thanks ShootTheCore), the project manager of Nanostray’s developer, Shin’en. Linzner states that Nanostray 2 will remove the much-despised touch-screen weapon selection, but may possibilly include two player Wi-Fi capability. He also was very confident about the audio and visual stengths in the game.
Also, thanks again to ShootTheCore and this Shmups.com forum thread for a few more tidbits… According to a translation of a German magazine, it seems that Shin’en is also changing the format to a more traditional 2D format in order to improve gameplay. Nanostray 2 will also feature a replay save function, which allows you to upload replays to their server to share with others.
It will be interesting to see how this project turns out. The original game in the series laid a nice foundation, but it looks like Shin’en is listening to the contructive criticism from shmup fans and may deliver a top-notch title the second time around.
Update: Siliconera has screenshots
