Gameplay Videos: Panzer Dragoon Saga – Saturn

Panzer Dragoon RPGPanzer Dragoon Saga has a lot of things going for it. Not only is it one of the Games That Defined The Sega Saturn, but it is arguably one of the best console RPGs of all time and a highly sought-after collectors item in its original form.

While you could easily find a handful of reviews for the game that could give you a general idea of what makes Panzer Dragoon Saga so interesting, I’ve pulled up some gameplay video clips that will allow you to see the game in action before hunting your own copy down.

Naturally, we will start with the intro cut scene that begins this epic adventure. You may initially think that the voice acting is in Japanese, but it is actually a unique language designed specifically for the game. “Panzerese”, consists of a mixture of German, Japanese and Latin terms and syntax — during cutscenes, and an involving storyline that continues throughout the series.

In some of the clips, you will see PD Saga’s unique take on the standard RPG battle format. It maintains some of the feel of the original Panzer Dragoon games which were all on-rails shooters.

  1. Another brilliant post AND never before seen (well, by me at least) footage? Gasp! Thanks!

Oh, and this being a brill post in a series of brill posts, I’ve just linked back to you from my humble Lair.

    Keep it up!

  2. I remember feeling like I had discovered the Holy Grail of gaming and 99.9% of people out there were missing out on a real gem. I had kind of been a ff7 fanboy, and to me PDS took things to the next level.
I worked at Toys R Us and grabbed one of only 3 copies we got before it even hit the shelf. So my town of 100,000 people saw just 2 copies up for grabs. Missing out on a US Grandia and SFIII Scenarios 2 &3 was harsh, at least PDS made it out even if it was in limited quantities.

  3. If you ever get bored, I recorded pretty much every key moment of the game and put the videos up at http://pds.roushimsx.com/ (well ok, they’re hosted on Fileshack right now).

Been meaning to migrate to GoogleVideos but they take forever to validate and I have no idea how I’d lay out the page and such.

For fun, here’s a fight against the Anti-Dragons at level 99 (pretty much just screwing off and trying out different attacks: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2368627520004167036&hl=en

Good lord does Sega need to rerelease this game as part of the 3d Ages line. There’s been some informal mentions of being interested in doing it, but like the remake of Castlevania III that was mentioned in the Castlevania Chronicles interviews, I doubt it’ll ever happen :( (I would LOVE to be wrong, though!)

  4. I’ve uploaded a couple of the youtube videos you’ve used, and I must say that they belong to roushi work ;)

BTW, I did an article about this game, but it’s in Spanish…
