New Nights Into Dreams Coming To Revolution?

NiGHTS Into DreamsSega fans have been asking for another NiGHTS Into Dreams game for years and this fact has been reflected in the fact as my #1 choice for Games That Actually NEED A Sequel.

NiGHTS fans have been given a little more hope via the latest issue of Japanese gaming mag, Famitsu. (English message board discussion) Instead of the typical internet rumor, this authoritative magazine contained a small piece on the possibility of a new NiGHTS Into Dreams appearing on the Nintendo Wii.

I must emphasize that the game has not been officially announced, but is in Famitsu’s rumor section. But for the most part, Famitsu has reliable sources and is usually quite accurate.

If you would like to see what the fuss is about, read my review of the original NiGHTS Into Dreams for the Sega Saturn.

The developers at Sonic Team have been very hesitant about producing another NiGHTS game and have been waiting for an opportunity where they can actually improve on the original instead of being a re-hash. (Read Wikipedia’s Entry for more background) The combination of the Wii’s processing power and its motion-sensing controller might just be the key to a NiGHTS Into Dreams game that will blow all our minds.

Update: The NiGHTS sequel for the Wii has supposedly been confirmed.  You can see screens and an interview about the game)

This would be nice, if true. The Rev. controller would be a perfect fit. Thanks for the info.

    A new Nights eh?
You know I’ve been hearing the same rumours since 1996 when the game was released..
The rumour said they were working on a sequel for the Saturn called Air Nights
Next year the rumours said they were moving the title to the Dreamcast and it was a launch title for the console
The next year the buzz was that it was ready to be announced by Sega…
Last I heard of the same rumour was in 2003 when Sega was about to go bankrupted and their amongst their suitors was Microsoft and the buzz was Sonic as the mascot of Xbox and Nights as a sequel (the acquisition went down the pooper when Sammy bought Sega making it a subsidiary of Sammy Sega holdings)

    Anyway

Famitsu didn’t say REVOLUTION TO GET Nights, the article was in their rumour column and it said that it’s about
“an action adventure game about a flying clown-like magician by a developer who is going independent”

Now they never mentioned a sequel to a game (it could be a new game altogether) they never who’s that developer they just speculated that it was Nights’ creator Yuji Naka (who says he is quitting Sonic Team but some say he is just bluffing to get a better post at the studio) and that flying clown-like magician is Nights (well for all I know it could be a new Pandemonium with an aerial twist ) …

And yes it would be great to see a New Nights and yes I would buy it and yes I did like it… But I am not going to hold my breath…

Oh yeah Sega and Hudson are going to offer a portion of their Game libraries through Nintendo’s Virtual Console….
I would love to see Nights (the original) there…. Especially since we know that Nintendo won’t be able to offer some games from the N64 library (I am talking about Goldeneye and Conkers bad fur Day) because Rare ware (the developer) is now a part of Microsoft…
Nights would fill up those gaps perfectly plus the new controller would be ideal

  8. if you read my full post and sample some of my other related ones, you’ll see that I pretty much agree with everything you just said — including the fact that this is just a rumor

I hope it will be similar to the ‘nights’ mini-game included in the Eye toy SegaSuperstars game (PS2), anyone play it??

  10. I’ve heard of it, but I haven’t had the opportunity to try it out.

But yes, that does sound like it would be a logical approach :)

  14. Uh, the original post was from over a year ago…

The aftermath: The game was decent. Compared to the original, it was an abomination, and I’d rather it never have been made at all. Journey of Dreams has nothing on it’s predecessor, and it kind of sucks.

The worst thing of all is, all the magic and atmosphere is gone, it felt like a cheapened mockery, like they tried too hard or didn’t care enough. Well, at least Sega published Shiren the Wanderer on DS here, and the game is intact aside from a few… questionable… decisions in the translation and the horrible, horrible boxart.

Of course, they weren’t the developers, but when it comes to the Sega of today, a point is a point and they need all the points they can get. If any game company can score enough points for a lifetime, it’s Sega, but just because they used to be great and should be remembered fondly for such things as the Genesis, Sonic, NiGHTS, Phantasy Star, and whathave you, it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be beaten to death with harsh words for what they’re doing now.

  16. Thanks for the comment! Nice comparison :)
