Rampage was one of my original favorites in the arcades when I was growing up. I still get a kick out most of the Rampage games released over the years. There’s nothing quite like beating the crap out of buildings and eating innocent bystanders.

So imagine my excitement when I see that the new Rampage: Total Destruction will not only be released on the PS2, but also the Gamecube! Yes, my beloved Cube will have this yummy-looking title. The XBox, on the other hand, looks like it was snubbed. Both versions will start at only $20 retail — not bad at all.

In addition to our old-school favorite characters, George, Lizzie, and Ralph, Rampage Total Destruction will also include a 27 new characters such as Icky the Echidna, Crock the Crocodile, and Rocky the Rock Monster. Looks like pretty soon they will be rivaling Marvel vs. Capcom 2, for the biggest character lineup). This should add a bit more character to an already fun game.

From the screenshots and videos (see below), the 3D models and environments look VERY detailed while still maintaining the overall look and feel of the Rampage we grew up with.

The Gamecube version definately has an upper hand on the PS2 as it supports a full 4 players! I’m pretty sure this is the first Rampage game to support more than 3 players. The Gamecube version will definately make a good party game.

Rampage: Total Destruction will also include a number of extra play modes to keep us busy AND… get this… the original arcade versions of Rampage and Rampage Would Tour are included. Oh yeah… retro goodness!

So not only will the PS2 and Gamecube have a fresh, pumped-up installement of Rampage, but they will also get two older arcade installments on the same shiney disc. That’s the way it should be!
