Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box Review by Siliconera
The new Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box for the PS2 is out now and my friends at Siliconera are already on top of the situation with a full review.
As many of you may know, this is a special installement of the Sega Ages series in which the 3 Sega MegaDrive/Genesis gems developed by Treasure are combined on one fabulous disc. It includes Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, and Dynamite Headdy in addition to many extra features.
I greatly encourage you to read the full review of this compilation over a Siliconera, but here are a few juicy tidbits:
“There are plenty of display options that let you fiddle with the resolution and filtering. Regardless of what you choose, it looks a lot nicer than the Genesis does running through composite cables. The gameplay is pretty much perfect, with no noticeable slowdown or graphical glitches.
Unfortunately, the sound is far from perfect. Most emulators still can’t properly reproduce the FM synth of the Genesis, and long time fans will definitely notice that the music sounds a little off.”
Overall, it seems to be one of Sega’s better collection, but its still a little on the iffy side when it comes to the question of a US release. I really think this one has a lot of potential because of the strong (and growing) Treasure fanbase.
In case you missed it, I just recently did a full review of Gunstar Heroes for the Sega Genesis. And it was also featured on my articles, “Games That Pushed The Limits” and “The Best Sega Genesis Games For Nintendo Revolution“,

One Comment:
I have PGEN(Genesis emulator) for my PS2, so I was thinking of skipping this. But since I’ve never played Gunstar Heroes, I might as well import this one for the hell of it..nothing else to get this month.
