Sonic Mega Collection is Top 25 PS2 Seller

IGN Recently posted the Top 50 Best Selling PS2 Games of 2005 and Sonic Mega Collection Plus is number 22 — beating out titles such as Need for Speed Underground 2 and Madden NFL 2005. The Mega Collection sold 468,000 units last year — not too shabby.

This at least shows that there is obviously some interest in quality retro compilations (or at least some 2D Sonic action). Granted, I didn’t see any other retro packs on the top like the Midway Arcade Vol. 3, but there is some money to be made from them.

I wish I could see some larger sales charts to see how some of the other retro compilations did. So if anybody out there knows of some, please let me know.

It will be interesting to see how 2006 changes the retro scene. Nintendo’s Revolution has quite a potential to change the way classic games are distributed and played. The pay-per-game-download system might fare better than the compilation idea.
