Gunstar Heroes Game Gear Included In Treasure Box
One of the rarest of all Treasure games is at last being brought out of hiding. A retail source in Japan reports that Sega’s upcoming PS2 Treasure Box compilation will not only include the Genesis and Mega Drive versions of Gunstar Heroes, but it will also contain the elusive Game Gear version of Gunstar Heroes as well!
In case you missed my previous coverage of the set, The Sega Ages Treasure Box includes ports of three Treasure classics, Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy and Alien Soldier. Sega has included not just the original Japanese versions, but the overseas versions as well, including digital versions of the English instruction manuals.
The Game Gear version of Gunstar is a port of the Genesis original. For many, Treasure Box will be the first chance to see if any differences exist between the two versions. Personally, I’ve never tried the Game Gear version. There is a Master System version out there too, but the SMS and GG versions are probably extremely similar as the Game Gear is heavily based on the Master System system architecture.
