Preview: Radilgy (aka Rajirugi) - Dreamcast 2D Shooter
We are only about one month away from our first Dreamcast shmup release of 2006. Radilgy is a NAOMI-based shooter from Milestone (makers of Chaos Field). The gameplay also borrows heaviliy from its brother, Chaos Field such as the ability of the player’s ship to swing a sword to cause damage, and destructible enemy fire.
The style is very unique for a shoot-em-up as it sports a anime-style, cell-shaded look that some have compared to Jet Grind Radio. However, after looking at the gameplay videos, I think it looks more like a hand-drawn style. Even though both games may be cell-shaded, the styles are significantly different — probably due to JGR’s 3D environment. However you slice it, Radilgy breaks the mold from traditional shmup style and will stand out in a crowd.
The Dreamcast version supposedly will sport exclusive features — but the only feature I have heard of specifically is Net-Ranking.
The game is scheduled to be released on February 16th and is already racking up a bunch of pre-orders at Lik-Sang and other import game shops.
While it will not be making a stop in the US via the Dreamcast, if successful, we may possibly see Radilgy come to the US as a Nintendo Gamecube port, much like Chaos Field did.
Note: Don’t forget another Dreamcast shmup, Under Defeat will be on its way a month later.
