I Am Impressed With Gauntlet on XBox Live Arcade
I’ve recently got a bit more exposure to the Gauntlet acutally use XBox Live to its fullest in order to provide an experience that is very similar to a real arcade.
Gauntlet is one of the greatest arcade co-op games ever. It is one of those games that is enjoyable as a single player game, but really shines when played with multiple players. You’ll have the option of playing Gauntlet online with up to three other gamers for a pretty slick arcade experience. Just like other XBox Live games, you can do invites, and I belive voice chat as well. So basically, the only thing that is missing is a real arcade cabinet with 4 bodies crowding the surrounding space.
Also worth mentioning are the leaderboards which track and report stats to the rest of the Xbox Live gamers, including how many times you added credits. And with 100 levels of gameplay you’ll be adding LOTS of credits.
These XBox Live Arcade games seem to be going over quite well, but easily get overshaddowed by the new 360 games. I think some players are also hesistent to spend so much time on them when they paid hundreds of dollars for a cutting edge system. However, hopefully the buzz will build on these arcade games and we will see other titles follow suit. As I mentioned before, Nintendo Revolution’s virtual console. We’ll have to wait and see if Nintendo will implement similar Net capabilities to their old titles or simply offer bare-bones emulation.
