Handfull of RPG Ports to PSP
I figured it was only a matter of time before the PSP got its share of RPG action. The original Playstation was one of the best systems ever for RPG owners, so I was suprised it took this long for ports to make their way to the portable. After all, look how quickly SNES ports showed up on the GBA.
It looks like Square/Enix is giving the PSP some love after giving out some major titles to Nintendo’s GBA and DS. Valkyrie Profile Lenneth will be a complete remake of the original game and will contain additional cut scenes and movies to connect the story between the PSP remake and the new sequal in works for the PS2. Lenneth will be released in Japan on March 2, but no U.S. dates have been announced.
Konami is releasing a PSP compliation of Suikoden and Suikoden II in Japan on February 23rd. The preliminary site has a set of screenshots, which show that the game’s original graphics aren’t being upscaled to fit PSP’s whole screen resolution, but they are getting a larger visible game area instead.
A popular 2D Korean RPG, Astonishia Story, has recently been released on the PSP. The has a battle system similar to Grandia and the game has recieved a slight graphical upgrade from its GP32 counterpart. The PSP version is actually a port of the original PC game from 1994. The game doesn’t show it’s age, however, as it has very detailed animations and beautiful in-game cutscenes. Check the Astonishia website for a gameplay movie, and some screens.
