According to a recent interview with Final Fantasy III executive producer Hiromichi Tanaka (who also worked on the original FFIII) in the Japanese magazine Famitsu, the new version of FF3 on the DS will include:

• “Virtual” 3D Graphics – you can zoom in and marvel at the scenery, but you cannot rotate the camera – except in buildings
• More character development and involvement than the original.
• Balanced job system
• May be possible to play the game with only the stylus
• Utilizing wireless capabilities — possibly only outside main quest
