I’ve been working on organizing my Game Soundtrack MP3 collection in iTunes and thought I would share my favorite places to get some free downloads.
The best place to get modern remixes of tracks from classic games is OCRemix. They offer a few different ways to expand your collection. Not only can you search for certain songs and download them directly from their site, but you can get a torrent of their entire archive and recieve and RSS feed for updates. They put out a new remix or two every few days.
A great place that offers modern soundtracks via torrents, IRC, FTP, and DirectConnect is #gamemp3. They occasionally offer some good fighting game soundtracks that I enjoy among others. They also offer RSS feeds for new torrent updates.
If you are a Final Fantasy fan, look no further than Blue Laguna’s archive. They have a number of full albums up for download and add new ones every now and then.
If you are in the mood for some more old-school tunes from the Sega and Nintendo eras, check out the impressive selection at SegaXtreme and NintendoXtreme. Both are adding new albums on a frequent basis.
Enjoy the music, everyone!
