Re: Visual Novels
Honestly, this is a genre where you can easily get burned by playing a "random game." There are so many shitty porn and otaku-bait VNs out there. I'd only recommend "the classics" (translated Fami/PCE/PC/etc games like Portopia and Yu-No) and modern games that are critically-acclaimed and widely embraced by the VN community. This isn't like, say, NES platformers or Atari shooters, where even the "bad" games are kinda fun. Bad VNs are just plain awful.

Re: Visual Novels
Okay sucked it up and played Chaos;Child to completion. All endings complete. Missed some "trophies" because eff that pedantic nonsense.
The character routes were questionable, but the true ending was actually..... kinda cool. The developers attempted the whole "metafiction" thing, and were mostly successful. Still have mixed feelings about the game overall. When it's good it's good but when it's bad... my God does it have some bad patches. And this thing has no business being 50+ hours. What the hell were they thinking with that runtime.
