Best inexpensive handheld emulator (that isnt a PSP)?

For mostly NES, SNES, Genesis and GBA. Would prefer a 4:3 screen.

GCW Zero looks really promising but its quite a bit of money (imo) for something that isn't 'perfect'. Will probably get better as the software matures but there is no real guarantee that it will.

Would work fine, as the Klip is universal, they recommend buying an extra case just to attach the Klip to.

However with a Tablet it may be a bit heavy.

You also dont need a Rooted phone to use it, as the Klip comes with a cable attachment for the controller.

yeah that's what I'd wondering - if the tab would be too big, heavy, awkward for it. I've got a Galaxy Tab 4 that I don't do too much gaming on just cuz I don't really dig most touch-controls.

may I ask why your against using a psp? Your not going to find a better cheaper option imo. Also most emulators can force 4:3 aspect ratio so that shouldn't be an issue.

I thought about the GameKlip thing myself, but a tablet would likely be too heavy and awkward. Also finding the right enclosure for a tablet seems difficult, I think they only make them for Nexus 7's.

Emulation quality. Everyone always says "It's perfect!!". Now, I realize nothing emulated is gonna be literally perfect, But, when you really look into it you find just as many saying pointing out a lot of flaws. Never been interested in PSP games, so i never wanted to spend the money to find out i guess.

Well, hmm.. i see a few for sale locally for about $50. Guess i could try it out now. Does the d-pad suck as bad as a PS1/2/3 pad?

For the systems you're looking to emulate, a PSP would be fine. May only run into issues with some of those chipped SNES games.

I like the Sony d-pad, so take that in mind, but the PSP d-pad feels pretty great to me. It has less travel than a DualShock, so you may find it more responsive. I know I can play fighters on it without much of an issue.

I have a Dingoo A320, so I've always had an eye on the GCW Zero. Looks awesome and is genuinely retro oriented with its 4:3 display. The Dingoo has been fun for hacking about with as you can put all sorts of things on it. Plus, the community at dongoonity.org, where I'm guessing most of the GCW devs hang out as well, is really friendly.
