What are you listening to at the present? (genres helpful)

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I've become a big Alestorm fan. Their songs are fun and catchy and their music videos are memorable. I definitely feel like a fucking pirate now LOL

I've also been dipping my toes into Nanowar of Steel, a very interesting comedy band. My God, the amount of references, word puns, and nods to Italian culture that they put into their songs and music videos are incredible. Tons of nerdy stuff (like references to horror movies), as well as references to lots of things in heavy metal. I feel like I need a discussion group after watching one of their videos just to cover everything that I missed. It's a very nerdy/geeky band and a lot of their stuff can go over one's head. Here are a some of my favorite ones, which I also think are more accessible than some of their other works as you don't need to be able to pick up on all of the references and stuff to enjoy these:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSWszdSHkyE - Everyone can grasp the comedy on this one, brilliant lyrics
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzThLiIEOw8 - This one is catchy as hell and a must for horror fans. Note that disco is a general term for dance clubs over there in Italy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0YXfeNxJJ0 - A hilarious nod to reggaeton and Norwegian black metal
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9WWz95ripA - I don't even know how to describe this one LOL

I've been listening to some Sabaton and enjoying all of the military history I'm learning from them. On the negative side though, a lot of their songs seem to follow the same formula. Here's yet another Nanowar song parodying Sabaton as well as hilariously poking fun at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. I'm not a sport fan but I learned a lot about this game after watching the video:

and a few Sabaton songs I've enjoyed:

Here's a great album from a group called Owlbear that I like:

Waiting on a new album from Unleash the Archers, this song is great:

I never heard of this band before, but my god the range on their lead singer is fucking insane:

Lastly, I'm checking out the most recent Nightwish album, there's a great music video for one of the songs pointing out how people today spend too much time on their phones and on social media. That's what I love about metal, a lot of bands have songs about meaningful stuff, unlike most of what's on mainstream music on the radio

EDIT: I failed to mention that Alestorm videos should be played with close captions on as they tend to have funny, easter eggs embedded in them

No I haven't, which is odd because I used to be really into Nightwish. I had listened to the album itself, but never actually watched the film.

I'm not THE biggest Disney person, though I do have Disney+ and a love for a handful of Disney films and while Dumbo isn't one of them, I do gotta say that this Pink Elephants on Parade remix slaps.

Gods in Decay is such a great song. I love these lyrics about an Artificial Intelligence that has escaped the system and is coming to warn humanity of the machines that are coming to exterminate them Terminator style. Artificial Intelligence is all we hear about in the real world these days so of course we're going to start seeing a resurgence of songs and movies about them:

[Verse 1]
At last the chance to meet has come
I've watched them from afar so long
Anticipation hits me to my very core
I’ve got to warn them of the force
That seeks to end them at the source
If 'The Collective' comes their lives will be no more

[Pre-Chorus]
And though the way they stare as I walk by makes me uneasy
I’ve got to do all that I can to save the day
But when I face them in their gilded halls they laugh unceasing
They will not listеn to a single word I say

[Chorus]
Gods in decay
This is not the famous human racе, that I came to love
No one to save
I am not an equal just a slave, and my hope has come undone

[Verse 2]
There's no denying their decline
All they had built now lost to time
They had the chance and chose to let their planet die
Instead of fighting to return
They hid away and let it burn
I was a fool to ever think they'd care to try

[Pre-Chorus]
It breaks my heart to know their happiness was simulated
Only illusion, they were lying to themselves

[Chorus]
Gods in decay
This is not the famous human race, that I came to love
No one to save
I am not an equal just a slave, and my hope has come undone

[Bridge]
Hopelessness has crushed the light
Knowing what I yearned for was a lie
Am I alive or am I just A.I.?

[Guitar Solo]

[Chorus]
Gods in decay
This is not the famous human race, that I came to love
No one to save
I am not an equal just a slave, and my hope has come undone
No one to save
I am not an equal just a slave, and I'll never rise above
