Played some more today, and got Undine's magic.

Only took one attempt to beat the Spiky Tiger.

Plus you have to level up that dumbass brand of magic that's useless in any other part of the game

First time I beat the game I used NO magic at the final boss.

It took awhile.

Dang. That's like beating Lavos with just Crono and the wooden sword

Man, when you get Flammie and you realize you can fly above everything and go wherever you want... that's my favorite "Holy shit!" moment in any game ever.

You only use your weapon to kill the leftmost bit anyway; the rest is Gold Studded Luminare spam.

True, but still time consuming, especially without Marle or Robo there to heal

You know, I can't remember ever using Robo as a healer. If I think about it he has really nice heals, but I always used Marle.

Marle is the same girl from Secret of Mana, right?

Looks the same but is not. Amusingly, both games have a girl named Luca/Lucca who look very different.

Actually with a charged sword you'll do like 250 HP in damage. So yeah, tedious but doable.

Also, in my youth I would never take damage from the final boss. I "discovered" the midge mallet trick on my own, of course now it's common knowledge. 8)
