I wouldn't get too cocky about this. After level 150, you are playing levels from earlier in the game but with the entire level invisible. As in, all the platforms are black on a black background. It is pretty absurd.
I have played this game a heap of times over the years, the NES port as a kid and later on the SMS. I also picked up a copy of Taito legends a few weeks ago and have arrived at the bad ending on that one. I don't think I've ever played it one player though! I need a willing player 2, but I know a few of them. The SMS version is definately the most fun in terms of what seems like the complete random-ness of item placement and just odd, odd power-ups.
I'm pretty sure that on all levels which end in a 0 or a 5, all the left over bubbles will turn into items at the end. You can also trigger this by having the second last digit of your score be a 0 or a 5. This is very easy to do in 2 player, since you get 10 points for popping a bubble, so when your enemies are all in bubbles, one player stands up against the wall popping bubbles to set the score correctly, while the other player finishes the level.
Also, for those that haven't worked it out, when you pick up a cane you will get a gigantic treat at the end of the level. There is another item that triggers it as well, I'm thinking its a treasure chest?
