The DS version will also freeze if you attempt to do things in the "wrong" order.
The game can't even comprehend non-linearity.

They changed the battle system in the DS version, too. Turn-based, normal RPG battles as opposed to the SRPG-lite battles of the PSX version.
I still haven't finished the game, but I find that scene hilarious.

Great RPG? Not sure. Hilarious? Sure looks that way, and I've played games that were much less entertaining for a much longer amount of time.
Rhapsody is absolutely hilarious.
If you like silly and corny Japanese humor, then it is perfect. It is also incredibly silly as you have attacks that rain down Pancakes on your enemies.
Is it for everybody? God No. But for me, personally, I loved it. I thought the story was really unique and interesting. The battle system was simple and fun. And there is charm about the game that puts a smile on your face.
It is only about 12 hours long, so it doesn't overstay its welcome. It is just a fun time. Turn off your brain for a bit and enjoy its silliness.
