Final Fantasy VII remake announced

So the fans finally brow beat them into it. I guess it was only a matter of time.

LOS ANGELES (June 15, 2015) – At Sony Computer Entertainment of America LLC’s (SCEA) E3 press conference today, SQUARE ENIX® announced that it has begun production on the full remake of FINAL FANTASY® VII for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system.


Leading the development will be key members from the original project, including producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Tetsuya Nomura and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima.

Word on the street is that it'll come to the Xbox One and PC.

The PC mod community should make it interesting.

As for the game itself: I am not really interested in it. I was a Nintendo fan boy when I was growing up and so my first PS home console was a PS3. I purchased it for the PSP/PS3 via PSOne Classics and about 5 or so hours in I decided it wasn't for me.

Good for the people who loved it though.

Not what I thought of when I typed that. I forgot about that part of the fan base.

I know it's a mediocre game as it stands now, but I think I'd buy this. With the little visual we see, they appear to be doing a massive clean up. I think they could streamline the bad parts that dragged, clip the unncessary sit and rot around yammering scenes and slow magics/summons, and other junk that dragged it down making a better game for it.

Different strokes and all that, though. I'm still waiting for a game to dethrone Chrono, at least as far as JRPGs go. A few have come close, but nothing is there for me yet. I did enjoy FFVII, I spent forever obsessing over the game, wanting to own it. I didn't have a PSX, so I was ecstatic when they announced the PC port. Sadly, my machine wasn't close to powerful enough, so I had to keep waiting until I did get a PSX one Christmas.
