Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Rewatched Saw because of its praise and was curious to see how it's handled differently to the torture porn sequels. I loved it as a teen but now I am so surprised at just how underwhelming it is. I don't mind that it's a more tame film, the lack of violence can still be just as, if not more effective for the most part, but I feel like they were trying to make up for it by making the editing and camerawork incredibly stylized, and it was a style that was so tiresome so quickly. Can't think of a better way to explain the style, but it's very early 2000s. Honestly, if it just dealt with the two guys trapped in the room and watching the mystery unfold it would have been so much better. I wasn't really into any deviation in it, especially the flashbacks. Plus, the doll wasn't effective in being creepy to me either.
I'm curious to rewatch the sequels. I had my gore phase and loved them then, so worst case scenario I'll get a nostalgic rush. Still, they might be fun in an absurdist way? Just to be grossed out and laugh at the violence.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Saw The Mummy a while back and I gotta admit it's one of the best blockbusters. Perfect blend of action, horror, and comedy. The horror aspect as a great way of showing what a threat the villain was, and surprisingly the comic relief character was very entertaining. It was INCREDIBLY cheesy, but I felt like the film knew that and played it as a strength.
Part 2 was just terrible though. They didn't need to include the annoying kid, and having the comic relief character have the bracelet stuck on him would have worked better and still be logical since that is something he would do.

Which "The Mummy" are you talking about?
The 1932 film with Boris Karloff is awesome, mostly because of how awesome Karloff is. The 1999 film with Brendan Fraser I have a soft spot for, and it sounds like this is the one you're talking about. It might be a little cheesy at times, but it was meant to be a fun and entertaining movie. Not something to take too seriously. The sequel I remember hating, but I only seen it once way back when it first came out. And the 2017 film I have yet to see, and have no plans to.

I actually never seen the 1932 Mummy film yet. That's strange because I am a big fan of the early 30s Universal horror films.

Just play the game that WayForward made.

It doesn't actually tie in with the movie plot, but that's for the best. You instead get a very solid metroidvania.

Have you seen the 1959 Hammer one, where Christopher Lee plays the mummy? He got beat to hell making that movie, and it makes his performance even more impressive.

Didn't see that one yet, but Hammer films are also quite fun, although I didn't like Blood from the Mummy's Tomb. Dracula and The Devil Rides Out are great, and Taste of Fear is a hidden gem.

Yeah, Hammer's later Mummy stuff isn't on the level of the first film they did, a lot of which comes down to the strength of Christopher Lee's performance.
My favorite scene in the film, Lee rips through a door. Some grip had apparently screwed up and chained the door shut though, so Lee literally ripped it off its hinges. He dislocated his shoulder in the process and still finished the scene. Seeing that door explode is beautiful.
