Sufferosa

Image

Sufferosa is a lovely and dark interactive movie. There are lots of quick cuts and scattered pieces of information. It's a movie with an added edge from interactivity that lets you explore things with a little more depth and gives you the ability to alter the narrative's fate. It's definitely more movie than game, but movies don't usually give you choices. Run time should be about 40 minutes.

Dillo Hills

Dillo Hills is easy to pick up, difficult to master. When you get on a roll though, it feels GOOD! This is a game about maintaining speed and momentum. There are hills for you to roll down and jump off of. As you fly through the air, you have to position yourself to land perfectly on the downhill slope of a hill so you can gain more speed and catch air of the next jump. It's really satisfying when you hit several big jumps in a row and soar through the sky.

I played a few of these recently.

I really enjoyed Book of Living Magic and Endeavor. Recommend both of those. Book is extremely easy but is an enjoyable experience. Endeavor is a cool and short game with some reminiscence of Metroid (no combat though) and even some replayability.

The Saved by the Bell "game" made me laugh more than once, although I didn't remember the show well enough to get some other references.

Personally I really did not like Sufferrosa and would not recommend it, although I guess some people would enjoy it. I don't even dislike the general idea of interactive movies (Saved by the Bell was sort of the same concept and I liked it).

Ivo.

I'm glad you enjoyed some of them Ivo.

Endeavor is a really charming Metroidvania. It has a different feel from those games. I like the progression of your powers as you move through the game and gain strength and abilities after starting as a little disrespected nobody.

I rather liked Sufferosa though. It's not for everyone, certainly, but from a cinematic standpoint I think it is a fascinating way to tell a story. It's more about creating a consistent atmosphere and filling it with characters odd enough that you want to explore their back stories. It's not a linear storyline, it's more like a fictional world which you can research and interview its inhabitants. The twisted plastic surgery/rejuvenation clinic of people fighting over youth, death, and aging was a fascinating world to me, sort of like some fractured mutant Hollywood full of style, corruption, and twisted sexuality. It's definitely an unusual experience though that won't gel with everyone. It's dark and seedy and it doesn't explain itself, but rather expects you to explore the obtuse content it makes available to you and draw your own conclusions.

Sketch Quest

This one goes out to all the doodlers out there. This is a platformer that is full of doodles. What's really great about it though, is that it lets you add your own doodles too! In the image above, those are the bad guys I doodled and I'm shooting them with a a gun that I drew. The platforming and action are pretty good, but having the ability to sketch in your own elements into the game world is what makes this game really something special. It's great fun if you're a bit of the creative type.

It is funny as I saw Sketch Quest while playing one of the other ones and thought "JT would probably like the art style on this one". Was going to suggest it after trying it out to see if it was decent, but you got there first!

Encyclopedia Fuckme and the Case of the Vanishing Entree

Image
*Click to Play NSFW Game*

Perhaps the idea of a text based adventure doesn't sound very sexy, but this text based adventure is downright perverse and pornographic. Not for the kiddies or the lighthearted. Don't say I didn't warn you. You won't see naughty images, but you'll read about imagery than is smuttier than pictures.

The Case of the Vanishing Entree is a hardcore romp through a fictional scary underworld of BDSM lesbianism. This is the latest game by Anna Anthropy, the developer behind other lesbian BDSM games like Might Jill Off and Lesbian Spider Queens From Mars. This is far smuttier than those games though, and proof that the pen is smuttier than the digitally rendered sword.

I haven't updated this thread all month because I made a big Halloween thread for October.
Here's a link as a reminder.

Pole Riders

Image
*Click to Play*

I wouldn't recommend doing a Google search for this game if you're at work, so I have conveniently provided the link for you.

Pole Riders is the latest game by Ben Foddy, the developer that brought you QWOP and GIRP. This is his latest maddening physics experiment in which you and a buddy match up in a series of pole vaulting contests. I didn't have a buddy, so I can't speak to the multiplayer aspect of the game, though I gather it would involve a lot of cursing. I played the training level, which gives you a series of increasingly difficult jumps to vault over in a time limit. Like other Foddy games, this one is ridiculously difficult and hilarious.
