I racked my brain for years trying to figure that out. One of life's mysteries, I suppose.

Also, the reviewer was Andy McNamara, who is the editor-in-chief. Yeah.

EDIT: Perhaps Shan-tay and S***-tay?

This is why I prefer really descriptive "retrospectives" like the type found on HG101 over traditional reviews. I prefer information over opinion - tell me exactly what's in the game and let me decide whether it's worthwhile to play based on that.

And wow that Shantae review is bad. The writing is just terrible. And this is coming from someone who considers himself a terrible writer.

"Unfortunately, the game is slightly frustrating because the enemies are fairly random"
"not a whole lot of fun, if you ask me"

This is like high school blogger level shit. Archaic graphics - lol. And why such an emphasis on it being "kiddie"?

Reviews blow. Y'all should just listen to me instead. Play The 7th Saga.

I am 99% sure that's what this imbecile was trying to express. But Shantae doesn't rhyme with shitty, let alone shit-tay.

Her name is pronounced shawn-tay. As this official Wayforward trailer makes clear:

Too much 'w' with shawn-tay, though. More of an 'ah' sound.

Maybe he was trying to rhyme with shanty? It's stupid, regardless.

The only way we'll ever know the answer to this:

SHANTAE - RHYMES WITH ANOTHER WORD THAT DOESN'T MEAN GOOD

Is to go straight to the source:

I don't have a Twitter account. If someone else does and wants to solve this age old mystery, better ask Andy.

New thread, 25 entries to start, that depends on their historical impact on the genre (initial deviations from the original genre core form or swerves back toward the core form are probably more acceptable than milestones within subgenres), and yes, if they are of defining value to the genre. More in the new thread.

No Elder Scrolls? Morrowind would be a good candidate

I guess I missed the discussion earlier about metacritic/Game Informer score bombing some stuff. Well if you ask me, there still unfortunately seems to be a strong slant against a lot of Japanese stuff in the West from time to time. It usually just enforces the likelihood of me liking something even more when I see IGN or whatever trashing some JRPG. I'd say the last big one for me was The Last Remnant, that game was amazing.

I played through The Last Remnant, and it's definitely an acquired taste. I didn't really like the exploration aspects, and the story was just "eh". The battle system was the most fun of the whole thing. That, and the music.

Really, though, the statement that crystallizes to everyone what it is: It's a secret SaGa game.
