Games Acquired 2023
Re: Games Acquired 2023
Just curious, are there any major differences between the Saturn and PS1 versions? Also, I didn't realize the GBA release was also a remake, I assumed it was it's own thing.
Might have to check out the Game Gear version! The person I bought the SMS conversion of Shining Force Gaiden III: Final Conflict from also made a conversion of Lunar: Walking School.

Re: Games Acquired 2023
The PSX, Saturn, and PC versions are all similar in that they are the enhanced port "Silver Star Story" (as opposed to the more simplistic original, "The Silver Star"). There are obviously some graphical differences due to the varying platforms and of course the PSX version is the one in English.
However, there are actually two separate versions of the Saturn game. The second one is compatible with the Saturn MPEG card add-on for enhanced video capabilities.
Also note that Mahou Gakuen Lunar! on Saturn is a remake of Walking School.

What are the important differences between Sega CD and Saturn? And how significant is the enhanced video in the second Saturn version?

HG101 covers it pretty well (you have to scroll down a bit to the relevant section). Basically, the game was completely reworked for Saturn and PS1. The PS1 release came after the Saturn release. There's 50 minutes of added video. The Saturn MPEG release has the best video quality, but the PS1 release is reasonably close. Saturn has the best instrumentation on the new music tracks, but the new music is not considered as good as the original tunes in the Sega CD release. The PS1 has a few extras (unspecified) added on top of the extra content and changes for the the Saturn remake.
Honestly, if you want to just play one version of Lunar the PS1 release is probably the best compromise. The Saturn MPEG release is probably the best console version by a very thin margin, but if you're a fan of the property it's probably worth playing the Sega CD version AND one of the 32-bit remakes.

I added Skies Of Arcadia Legends for the Nintendo GameCube this evening!
I don't have as many, but I still have a few selections of games that I like to call my Holy Grail Games. Normally, when I pick one up, it takes a few months, but eventually, another one will rise. One of them that has stuck with me for a while has been Skies of Arcadia Legends for the Nintendo GameCube. I have played through the DreamCast version twice and it is my favorite game on the console. I have always wanted to pick up Legends because I loved it so much and my friend had a copy as well. Well, for a long time, it was over my price range because of the insane prices in Retro Gaming during the Pandemic and Shortages afterwards. Well, the prices are finally beginning to fall a little and so I decided to jump at the opportunity at a very nice copy. I paid a bit for it, but it is game that will never leave my collection and one that I can put like 80 hours into, so the value is fairly high. Plus, it marks off another Holy Grail game including maybe my final big GameCube purchase.

...congrats Markies, being able to add a grail to the collection is always a plus. Being that it's Skies of Arcadia makes it even cooler imo. Now I'm sort of kicking myself for not grabbing the Gamecube version back in the day. I had played through the Dreamcast version a few times and figured I didn't need another copy, so yeah I was wrong

Re: Games Acquired 2023
Bone inspired me, and I picked up three classic Irem titles in the eShop today:
In the Hunt
Moon Patrol
Ninja Spirit
I wish we’d get released of Kung Fu Master, Cosmic Cop, and R-Type Leo, but I suspect rights issues will prevent us from getting those. There’s no reason we don’t have Ninja Baseball Bat Man yet, though!
