Does anyone here even own a PS3? I think that's the issue. Anyways, I was under the impression that the PS3 hasn't really been cracked or modded yet.
Pround owner a 20GB PS3 here! Your right - as far as I know the PS3 can't be modded in any way yet. There is some crazy swap trick to play PS2 (mabey PS1 also?) backups but it involves dissambling the case and blu-ray drive.
Don't forget you can install Linux on your PS3. Even without the RSX access I would imagine the Cell processor should be powerful enough to emulate the original PS1. You might want to see if any PS1 Linux emulators are availible that will work on the PS3.
