Are you heavily interested in Mac FPS games?

I've played a bit of Pathways into Darkness, though it was probably around 25 years ago when I did. I recall it being unusual and difficult, but still fun. ZPC came out after I no longer had access to a Mac, so I never got to try it. I still don't have a Mac either...

Pathways is old enough you can probably emulate it. ZPC had a Windows release. It used the Marathon 2 engine.

Damn, it did! I had no idea ZPC ever got released on Windows. That's awesome.

Where to begin...

alienjesus wrote:My tentative list:
1. Shenmue 2 (DC)
2. Wii Sports Resort (Wii)
3. GoldenEye 007 (N64)
4. Either Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (GBA) or Castlevania: The New Generation (MD)
5. Mother 3 (GBA)
6. Either Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War or Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 (SFC)
7. ActRaiser (SNES)
8. The New Zealand Story (SMS)
9. Mario Party (N64)
10. Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is a classic of the GBA. In fact, it's the reason I bought one. I highly, highly recommend playing it, both as a great GBA game and the one that started a run of handheld Metroidvanias in the series.

I'd say ActRaiser is great, but it's debatable as a classic. My opinion, throw in Pilotwings. I'm not sure on which Fire Emblem you should go for, but it's a classic series.

OK...OK...Shadow Tower Anyss is off the list. Jeez. (I’m playing it anyway.). I’m also taking Sinistar out of the running because I spent time with it today, and I don’t like it. Qix is also no longer an option because I’ve been spending time with it recently and “beat” it (to the extent you can beat it) today.

What else should I choose?

OK...Here’s a list:

1. Bahamut Lagoon (SFC) (June TR)
2. TBD (July TR)
3. TBD (August TR)
4. Herzog Zwei (Genesis)
5. Medal of Honor (PSX)
6. M.U.L.E. (NES)
7. Phantasy Star III (Genesis)
8. Silent Hill (PSX)
9. Tecmo Bowl (NES)
10. Zaxxon (Arcade)

I took out 1080 and RE:CVX to diversify genres, opting for Silent Hill and Tecmo Bowl for horror and sports, respectively. (Also, I think I’d like to beat RE3 before moving on to RE:CVX.) I added PSIII because I’m itching for a JRPG right now.

Pick my challenge for me. Make me beat these games!

I will prioritize the games you told me to as they all have been on my list forever and I need an excuse to play them.

I know space ace is terrible but I absolutely love dragons lair 1 and 2 and have always wanted to play space ace but never have. Billy Hatcher is probably more of a hidden gem than a classic but it looks really fun and it has been on my list forever. I definitely agree that X8 is not a classic but it is the only X game I never played, even though I like the X series FAR less than mainstream mega man, I still feel like I should give it a shot, even if it is pretty weak overall.

To add to your list, I am on the fence with landstalker, I played it earlier in the year and absolutely loved it, played it for about 4 hours straight, the next day I played it for another hour or 2, then I put it down and lost all desire to play it. It actually is a pretty fun game, I can't even tell you why I lost interest because i definitely enjoyed what I did play.

Thanks! Landstalker is a game I think I’ll love if I ever summon the motivation to get started on it.

Ok, I'm going through my list of available FPS. Yes, I want to keep focusing on FPS. It is one of my favorite genres, and it's one that I have come back to on a regular basis ever since experiencing the bloody gore of Doom's first episode in the early 1990s while an impressionable child. I'm also mixing in some other first person view games with survival elements or RPGs, though not many.

Here is what I have available that is 10 years or older. Try to build me a list from it if you can, sticking to only one entry per series:

Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold
Blake Stone: Planet Strike
Crysis Warhead
Descent 3 + Mercenary
Deus
Doom 3 (this is the BFG Edition version, which released in 2012)
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin
Far Cry 2
Firestarter
HeXen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel
HeXen II
I.G.I.-2: Covert Strike
Killing Time
Kingpin: Life of Crime
Magic Carpet
Magic Carpet 2
Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault
Men of Valor
NecroVisioN
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Painkiller: Overdose
Pathologic
Redline
Redneck Rampage
Rise of the Triad
Robinson's Requiem
SiN Gold
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Strife
SWAT 3
Thief II: The Metal Age
TimeShift
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six
Ultima Underworld 2
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Venom. Codename: Outbreak

I want to see what you come up with.
