4-button vs. 6-button layout - Which one do you prefer?

Post by Sonicx360 »

I've been playing fighting games since I played DBZ Super Butoden 2 and Street Fighter II for SNES. And fighting games come in two common button layouts: 4 buttons or 6 buttons.

Which ones do you guys/gals commonly prefer?

In my honest opinion, I prefer 4-button layout. The reason it is easier to learn combos, given that I frequently use my right thumb to play fighters. But nevertheless, I'm not really terrible with the 6-button layout, for I always try something different.

That really depends on the game. A 4-button game like BlazBlue is more comfortable with the SNES/PlayStation layout than it would be with the Saturn layout, but 6-button is obviously better for Street Fighter or Darkstalkers.

I prefer 4-button fighters like KOF.

With four buttons, I can keep a finger on each button at all times. I have access to 100% of the moves without having to move my fingers, so I have 100% access to all the moves, 100% of the time.

I still love some 6-button fighters, though. V.Sav and Skullgirls, for instance.

This. A SNES or Dreamcast controller is most comfortable to me.

Definitely prefer 4-button. I never did get used to the Saturn controller, because all the buttons were too similar. N64 is manageable since the C-buttons are very different than A and B.

6 button Saturn style all the way.

I don't think he's asking about which controller you prefer guys.

He's asking about control scheme -- if you prefer 6-button (IE: Street Fighter's LP, MP, HP, LK, MK, HK) or 4-button (IE: King of Fighter's LP, HP, LK, HK or BlazBlue's L, M, H, Drive).
