How do you feel about 2.5D platformers?
How do you guys feel about 2.5D platformers?
Imo there have been some really good 2.5D platform games that work pretty well, but only if the series started as 2.5D, like Tomba.
On the other hand I just can't enjoy a 2.5D Mario as much as a 2D Mario game. The controls don't feel as tight as they should be. And Sonic 4 looks really ugly. I can only dream of how beautiful these games would be with hand drawn graphics.
Yoshi's Island is perhaps the prettiest game I've ever played, and that is on the humble SNES. Can you imagine the people who made the beautiful graphics of Super Mario Galaxy making a 2D game on the Wii? sigh.
Anyway it's the middle option for me.

I think a series can make a smooth transition from 2D to 2.5D if it wants. For example, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards was in 2.5D, but it was still a great game.

No real option for me to choose, I don't mind 2D or 2.5D as long as it's done right and it's not a requirement for me that the series started in 2.5D

I don't mind 2.5d that much; I love sonic on the Genesis and sonic rush on the ds.

I think that NSMB and NSMB Wii are some of the best platformers out there. As far as Sonic 4, I think it looks brilliant.

2D or 2.5D are perfectly fine with me. I love platformers~
My gripe is the definition. Last time I checked, 2.5D is a 3D platformer on rails, like Klonoa or Nights; not like NSMB. NSMB is a 2D game with a ton of parallax scrolling to give depth.

I voted if transition is good. I think Gamecube WARIO WORLD worked out well.
