PSP games on the PS3?

by casterofdreams Thu Feb 16, 2017 3:44 pm

Hi all!

I tried doing a search on Google the only thing I came across was hacks to get PSP games running on the PS3 from a few years ago. I always thought it was an official thing you can do but I don't think I'm right. Did Sony ever make an undate available where you can load up some PSP games on PS3?

Nope. You can DL them and transfer them, but no dice on playing them on there officially. IDK about hacks.

Kind of?

They had a series of smaller digital titles branded under the Playstation Minis label, many of which ran on both, and a handful of which ran on Vita as well.

You could also use a PS3 to download digital PSP games to transfer over, and copy save data between compatible games. Could potentially cause confusion if you were grabbing the free titles on PS+ or something.

Otherwise, might be thinking of early remote play in reverse. Some PS3 games can be remote played via PSP. Or you can also play any/all PS1 games that way if I recall.

You can find PSTV's pretty cheap.

Ain't kept up with the PSTV hacking scene. Can you hack those things to play all PSP games now?

From what I've gathered, from here and around, you can play those minis and the PS1 games (naturally), but the only way to play PSP games on the TV is through the Vita TV.

I figured since I have a PS3 already I wanted to save a bit of money now. I had my shot at the bundle for $64 but the amazon third party seller said they didn't have anymore due to an inventory error. Now it's $99 or so. I could get just the unit for $45 but a controller is $45 as well. PS3 controllers are pretty expensive in my eyes.

Some more research since this went live has uncovered hacking efforts but my system doesn't have custom firmware. There's a method that can use official firmware but it's massively tedious.

Anyway thanks all.

TSTR: no worries. I always thought all PSP games were compatible with the Vita TV but the Vita games themselves had a restriction list.

Or on the PSP. Both the 2000 and 3000 have TV output.

Excellent, I must have gotten the PSP and the Vita confused about which one had the "whitelist" so to speak.

If you have a PSP Go and the dock you can use a PS3 controller for playing PSP games on your TV too.
