How many of these threads do we need? Really? This question gets asked every month or two.

I really do not think so. If the Dreamcast itself has the option to play music CD's, playing backups on CD-R's shouldn't be much different.

mil-cds were made by sega, hackers found out how to make their own, then made self booting games eventually.

Sorry guys, I'm guilty of asking the same question yesterday in an unrelated thread. I've just heard too many differing opinions. Thanks for the input.

SEGA never made mil-cds. SEGA only used GD-R's or GD-ROM's for the Dreamcast.

Burns won't wear out the laser, but a single bad burn could kill it. Somehow a disc I burned once caused my drive to make a weird noise and then just quit working. Usually a game would just come up as an audio CD if burned incorrectly, so I have no idea what happened. Luckily used Dreamcasts are cheap, so I just bought another for $25.
