I can beat the first 2 levels usually w/o losing a life. After that the game get's fing hard though. I still have yet to master the 3rd boss's patterns. One of these days i'll figure it out.

Easy mode

by Ivo Fri Jun 08, 2007 7:21 am

I've been playing on easy mode first (Normal isn't MUCH harder, it is generally harder of course); I still have trouble with it, but after playing it for a while you get more credits (I'm up to 8 continues). I finally finished the game yesterday; after managing to go past level 1 and 2 without losing a life and past level 3 with only a couple lost (tough mini-boss and boss!). In total I went through 41 lives (player stock 5, the 8 credits plus one life from score and I had no lives left when I finished).

Today I managed to finish using only (only, heh :P) 4 credits though...

Something I never manage to do is destroy Level 4's boss. IMO it is the hardest thing in the whole game, Level 5 is easier to me. Anyone has advice for that guy? I'd really like to unlock practice mode for level 5 on easy before moving into normal, but Level 4 boss is sooo hard for me (even just surviving it, not to mention destroying it).

Ivo.

I can get through level 1 and 2 without losing a life but from there on it gets a little tricky (understatement). Beautiful game tho. It's alla bout practice, just like Radiant Silvergun (which is easier I think)

Just played a bit of this today.

WOW!!

This seems faster paced and more epic than even Silvergun, and just as incredibly hard.

I actually can through level 1 rather easily(though my chaining sucks, as it does in Silvergun). I start to have a little trouble near the end of level 2 and the boss is problematic for me. Level 3 is where I start to fall apart. I did make it past the ring of death boss, but I think it was only because I ran out of time, not because I actually beat him. Level 4 completely and utterly destroyed me, then spit on my bones.

If only I were this good. This first stage run is a thing of beauty:

On easy, I can get to the Level 4 boss, but then I always get Game Over after that.

I have been playing long enough to have about 6 continues though!

I finally got this game, and i have to say it isn't a hard as i expected. I got past levels 1 and 2 quite easily, but did kick the bucket on three. I'm guessing thats where it picks up quite a bit. It is really challenging to get the whole switching colors aspect down but after that it flows pretty well. It seems like the trick on most of the levels is remembering the patterns, and utilizing the charge shots. It feels the normal mode is a bit easier than the easy mode in a way because you get all the extra charges from destroyed enemies. I havn't invested a whole lotta time yet but this is shaping up to be one of my favorite shmups. I wouldn't expect anything less from Treasure.

The best I've done so far with the game so far is get to the 4th stage without dying. I can do ok on the 4th stage, not losing too many lives, but the 5th stage will own me! All in all though, I've finished the game on less than four credits, but that's after playing the DC version for about 15 hours and the GCN version for about just as long. You'll unlock free-play the more time you put in, but you'll be good enough by then to where you won't need it. I'm huge fan of SHMUPs, but I've never considered myself exceptional at them. Ikaruga is just so cool, it has that motivation to keep practicing and never feels cheap like some SHMUPs can when it comes to dying.

Getting chains on the other hand, is another story. It amazes me how people can play this game flawlessly and still get all those chains! I'm too busy trying to stay alive lol.

What are you, my twin? That's exactly what I've been able to do...and I am also pretty good but MAN some people getting those chains are amazing. I guess it comes down to practice and memorization! The only shooter I'm good enough at to worry about high scores instead of dying is Battle Garegga.
