SOTM 2016 Calendar Reveal

Post by ExedExes »

The 2016 Shmup Of The Month calendar is finally here! My apologies for the delay, I was waiting on one last pick but they relinquished it back to me, so I chose a faithful SOTM member over the years, ChrisHaha2049, as an alternate. Thank you Chris!

A few interesting facts from next year's calendar -

- The time period covered in these picks spans 21 years, the largest spread in SOTM history.

- This year's calendar features the most horizontal shmups we've had in a year with 5!

Finally, before I begin, a friendly reminder to please don't do anything to the guy behind the scenes. I just put the thing together, and remember that this was community driven!

What are we waiting for? Let's HORI up and get to the games!

I'm liking this calendar a lot. Lots of old school represented here, as well as good stuff from Cave and even a few I've never played before!

Job well done, community!

Hey, there's a few here I'd definitely be up for joining in on this year. I have Side Arms Special and Blazing Lazers, I'll be picking up R-Type, I adore ProGear (having played it in an Arcade a few times) enough to actually try emulating it for this, and I've always been interested in trying Boogie Wings.

Awesome list - noise's pick is a nice lead for a XBLA purchase.

Wanted to note as another avenue - Side Arms (original arcade) is on the Capcom Arcade Cabinet (PS3, 360).

We'd love to have you join us! I'm liking the old-school emphasis this year. I also feel that we have a wider range of developers here as compared to the past 2 years. My boys did well!

It's got a ton of ports and it's good to see 2 more. I'll make a change to the OP.

Of note, 4 of those 5 are horizontal scrolling shooters.

Maybe they're just more welcoming to outsiders than verts?

Or maybe it's just more stuff that has console ports and I got lucky, I dunno.
