Well I played some Black Label last night and got 85 million. But because my high score table is corrupt there's no way for me to get a screen shot of my score. Almost makes me want one of the "cart conversions"

Probably my last play of the month here.

ExedExes - 10,343,060 - Stage 3 - Type B/Laser - MAME

Really, REALLY wish I had more time to do this. Hyper Mode is off the charts! I got a near 1000-hit combo on the Stage 2 boss! What a fine pick it was too.

And now, a fast update.

Super-X is on for October!

This is probably as obscure as they come, so enjoy this one!

Normal default settings and looks like no autofire option this time around.

Super-X (NTC, 1994)

Not much is known about this obscure arcade shoot 'em up from NTC.
It is rumored Super-X was developed by NMK due to information found on an NMK fan page:
ホントかウソか?! 未確認情報

★「湾岸戦争」の次に「宇宙戦争」のタイトルで開発されていた物がある。

★NTCと言うメーカーは、実はNMKの中に開発拠点があった関連会社らしい。
 「スーパーX」も日本で作っていて、当時「スーパースト2X」が流行っていたから付けた安易なネーミングらしい?

★韓国のメーカー「DOOYONG」のタイトルにも関わりがあるとか?

GOOGLE TRANSLATION:

Is it real or false?!Unconfirmed information

- There is a thing developed by the title of "War of the Worlds" next to "Gulf
War".

- The manufacturer that says NTC seems to be related companies that to tell the truth, there is a development base in NMK.
Is it naming that seems to be easy put because "Super-X" is made in Japan, and "Super-strike 2X" became popular at that time?

- There is relations also in the title of manufacturer "DOOYONG" in South Korea.

^Make of that what you will.

There is also speculation that N.T.C. stands for 'Nippon Trading Company,' which is the Japan license for the Korean-based developer, Dooyong.

Whatever the origins of this mysterious shooter one thing is for sure, is this is a solid '90s Toaplan-style shooting game. Reminiscent of Tatsujin-oh/Truxton II without the annoyances of large hitboxes, checkpoints or weapon power issues. The upbeat rockin' chiptunes also help to lighten the mood of this 16-bit romp.

Of course, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The main detriment is the infamous 'bullet-wobbling' effect that plagues a good number of shmups. It certainly doesn't ruin the game, however, and I don't recall anyone complaining about the bullet-wobbling when we played Raiden IV.
It's not actually the bullets that are wobbling, but the panning background layers that give the illusion that bullets are speeding up or slowing down relative to the background horizontal movements. If you really focus on the bullets' positions relative to the ship, and ignore the background (this is difficult), you'll see the bullets maintain their original trajectories. The bullet layer is not panning along with the background layers. This is a sign of lazy coding, or perhaps a gimmick to increase the game's difficulty.

Instructions:
This is a two button game:
  • Button 1 is Shot
  • Button 2 is Bomb.
Power ups:
  • 3 Shot types: an orange spread shot, blue electricity shot and green forward focus shot. (Collecting shot power ups of the corresponding colour of your shot results in leveling up your shot.)
Shot power ups constantly cycle through these 3 colours à la Raiden.
  • 'B' power ups: Adds one additional bomb to bomb stock.
  • 'S' power ups: Boosts your speed. (Collecting 'S' power ups at full speed results in 5000pts bonuses.)
  • 'P' power ups: Super Power! (Collecting shot power ups of the corresponding colour of your shot in Super Power mode results in 5000pts bonuses.)

I'm glad we can give this under-appreciated hidden gem some much deserved attention. I'm sure there is plenty of information I'm missing, like how extends are handled or how to enter Super Power mode through shot power ups. But hopefully together we can uncover some cool strategies and tricks for Super-X that haven't been discussed anywhere else!

I forgot you had sent something, just an honest mistake  Because I thought I saved it in my PMs, but it's not there anymore. I took all you put in your last post and added it for the first page. I also added the screenshots for lack of a flyer this month to that post. It needed all you just did there and it looks a lot better now. Thank you :)

That also confirms that what I found out about it being by Dooyong is highly likely.

After 10 days I finally have a chance to play (before the rest of you it seems!)

ExedExes - 504,100 - Stage 3 - MAME

Image

Plays very much like a Dooyong shmup, same graphics/sound too. Also a few elements in the power ups and weapons are very Truxton-like.
