Top 5 2D Arcade beat 'em ups

This was thinking about the old days in the arcades in the 90's,it was a great time for beat 'em ups,I miss those days.:D It took a long time to come up with my list,there was so many great ones.

1.Golden Axe:The revenge of Death Adder- Did anyone else loved this game?,I only played It once and they took it out. :( I was blown away on how great this game played and looked,It was 32bit,but remained a 2d side scroller.

2.The Simpsons
3.X-Men
4.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
5.Aliens vs. Predator

Do the D&D games count as beat-em-ups? The gameplay was similar, but you had spells/items. I spent a lot of time with those.

I never played those games,but if their like Knights of the Round table or Balder's Gate,they both use rpg-like elements,I think they count.

Oh hell yeah, I forgot about the Capcom D&D games. Those were some kick ass beat 'em ups. er... maybe sword 'em ups.

In no particular order:

Golden Axe(since we're counting hack n slash)
Battletoads Arcade(because it's so different from other beat'em ups)
Sengoku 3(AWESOME combo system and great variety of moves)
D&D Shadow over Mystara
Battle Circuit

Those last two are probably Capcom's best

Honorable mention to Simpsons Arcade and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs

That's how I feel currently(I fluctuate when it comes to lists like this). There are so many great beat'em ups, a mere five just doesn't do the genre justice
