Double Dragon IV

by Juan Aguacate Thu Feb 02, 2017 7:42 pm

Anybody try this? Thoughts? I don't really trust professional reviews on retro stuff (or games in general quite honestly) so I thought I'd ask here

I don't think it looks very good, myself. The videos seem to have some really weird physics. About the only way I'd buy is if I could try it out in a demo.

TBH, the Double Dragon Trilogy that came out a couple of years ago really soured me on the series. I'll prob grab this when it goes on sale super cheap out of mere curiosity.

What did they do with the Trilogy release that bugged you? I am out of the loop, here.

Probably a combination of a shitty port job and the fact that the arcade versions of DD are pretty garbage to begin with, if I had to wager a guess.

they didn't do anything. They just reminded me that the original (arcade) games weren't very good.

Ah, so I was half right. DotEmu isn't known for their stellar work, which is why I figured the ports might be crap.

I think DotEmu gets a bit more flak than deserved personally. But yeah, those arcade games pretty much suck. I'd much rather play the NES games.

And I'd much much rather play Kunio-kun games.

It's kinda of a slapdash emulation/port of the first three Double Dragon arcade games. It was done by DotEmu, who are hit-and-miss in the first place. I also think it was originally done for mobiles.

This looks a little better than that, and I'm still waffling on picking it up right now. When folks use 8-bit NES as a slam, that makes it appeal to me. :P

EDIT: Dang, ninja'd. Stupid work, keeping me from posting timely information on video games!

Well, the trailer video strongly indicates that Double Dragon IV is a successor to the NES trilogy, not the arcade trilogy. That is a very strong indication they know what's what.
