NGBC felt sloppy to me. Should I give it another chance?

Oh I wasn't at all aware from reading your description post that you wanted to exclude anime type fighters. I mean, GG XX and Battle Fantasia fall into that category. In any event if such is the case, stay away from Shin Kihome Musou

I really don't see a reason to not give it another try considering how cheap a ps2 copy goes for these days. Its even available via XBLA with even better sprites and character artwork to boot not to mention the best netcode to ever grace an SNK fighter (I know I know, no digital titles lol!).

It's not that I want to stay away from anything anime, it's just that overly porn-like style. I don't need that "fan service", and in fact, the more sexualized it is, the less likely I'm interested in it. There's no sexualization that I saw in Battle Fantasia (from the previews, reviews, and screenshots, I haven't played it). Is Guilty Gear XX like that, too?

I think I may pick up NGBC next time I see it. Perhaps I should have held onto it a bit longer and gave it a fuller go around. I see it actually has some pretty good reviews (when they're not complaining about how late 90s it looks, but that's not a bad thing to me at all).

By the way, I Googled Shin Kihome Musou and looked through the images, and now I swear I'm on the NSA watch list.

I think I get what you mean now...

How long did you have your previous copy of NGBC? More importantly, how much of your time did u put into the game before you decided it wasn't to your liking?
Yeah, the game ain't by no means perfect and some of the sprites and art look rather dated. But I like some of the real unique mechanics that the game has. I dig the pacing. The roster is solid and I really appreciate the structure of the single player "arcade" campaign. For what its worth (literally), there is alot to do and plenty to learn in NGBC. I certainly hope you do give it another try :)

I'll admit, not long at all. It was a cheap pick up, and I wasn't big into KoF back then. I'm still not, actually, but I'm giving the series a go after really liking NGPC fighters, especially SNK vs. Capcom MotM but even KoF R2.

Interesting. You enjoy the handheld miniaturized KOFs but not their full sized counterparts...hmm. We'll I suppose since you are enjoying fighters on the Neo handheld, do yourself a favor and pick up Gals Fighters. As the last fighter on the Neo Pocket, its perhaps the best game on the system.

I do love myself full-sized Capcom fighters, but I think earlier I just might not have given it a chance. I did always like Samurai Shodown 2 (on the Genesis). I thought that KoF was supposed to be different from NGBC, but I see I'm wrong, and thus I'll give it another shot. (When I said not into KoF, I meant I haven't yet delved too deeply into its library.)

I do want Gals Fighters, it's definitely on my want list. I should make a point of finding it soon.

I'm sure you know this but when you put Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Street Fighter IV and Injustice, do you mean the vanilla versions or the updates? Because for Injustice and Marvel especially there isn't really any reason to own the base game anymore.

There's Persona 4: Arena. It is anime based, obviously, but I don't think it's too overtly fan service-y. Haven't played it myself but it's by Arc System Works and has very positive reviews.

Street Fighter X Tekken is another one. It is VERY controversial, both in the way it was sold and mechanically. It is still fun to play though and strictly 2D.

There's also Smash Bros and Playstation All-Stars.

I own Street Fighter IV vanilla, I don't actually own MvC3 or Injustice yet. So do share what's best!

Care to explain about SFXTekken? And good one!

From what I understand it people were upset about the on-disc DLC of Street Fighter X Tekken. Also many Tekken fans hate that it's a 2D fighter.

Isn't there supposed to be a Tekken X SF that plays like Tekken? I thought that was part of the agreement Namco and Capcom had. Where is that game?
