I did a little research last night, and came up with these 2D fighters for the PS2 through Wii. Excluding compilations, downloads, and those with those with Dreamcast ports, am I missing anything glaring? For the record, I'm the kind of guy who thinks SFII, CotA, and Vampire Savior more than SFIV or TvC.

Battle Fantasy (PS3/360)
Guilty Gear XX (PS2/Xbox)
Injustice: Gods Among Us (PS3/360)
King of Fighters XIII (PS3/360)
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (PS3/360)
Mortal Kombat Komplete (PS3/360)
Samurai Shodown V (PS2/Xbox)
Street Fighter IV (PS3/360)
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Ultimate All-Stars (Wii)

How is KoF 2003, XI, or XII? I looked at and can't stand the art style for BlazBlue, and left off the rest of the Guilty Gear series as I heard they were redundant with GG:XX. I also didn't like and thus left off Neo Geo Battle Coliseum.

I have been really wanting a PS3 just for the fighters. Of course I would have to get the 3D ones too. :D

I skipped a few KoF games after 2002 so I can't say anything about 2003 or XI, but XII is pretty irrelevant if you have KoF XIII. It almost feels like a sloppy, unfinished beta of XIII in retrospect. I really can't recommend it.

That said KoF XIII is my favorite fighting game of this generation. I'm not a big fan of BlazBlue either.

Wait, there's 3D fighters now? Next you'll tell me there's a New Mexico now.

Well, KoF 03 was SNKP's most bold attempt at taking the tried and true series in whole new direction by way of an actual tag team feature implemented into games standard formula. Unfortunately as a first for the KoF series, the game lacks polish in almost every respect. Now, with regards to the games sequel (KoF XI), its a wonderful and surprisingly well done game. What 03 should have been. XI for me is a fun and a unique mark in the history of the series. Umm, what was it about NGBC that you didn't like...? I think its a very fun game with a rather unique roster. The game is insane to watch at high level play. I certainly hope SNKP produces a sequel for it.

6th/7th gen 2D Fighters... didn't Aquapaza recently get released on the PS3? Isn't there a release of Arcana Heart on PS2?

Let's not forget Skullgirls

Pretty damn decent from what I have heard. Been thinking about picking it up recently actually since it apparently has an incredibly well done tutorial.

BlazBlue, Arcana Heart, and Aquapazza have an anime feel to them that really turns me off. Not that I'm against anime per se, but these border on hentai to me, and I'm just not into that style. I'll check out KoF XI, though, thanks!

NGBC felt sloppy to me. Should I give it another chance? I may have played it too early or something.

Oh I wasn't at all aware from reading your description post that you wanted to exclude anime type fighters. I mean, GG XX and Battle Fantasia fall into that category. In any event if such is the case, stay away from Shin Kihome Musou

I really don't see a reason to not give it another try considering how cheap a ps2 copy goes for these days. Its even available via XBLA with even better sprites and character artwork to boot not to mention the best netcode to ever grace an SNK fighter (I know I know, no digital titles lol!).
