Slow-paced!? Are you sure you're talking about KOF06??? The game is pretty damn fast not only by 3D based fighting game standards but even by its 2D counterpart. I don't know if the game meets the same fundamentals as 2D KOF as the Maximum Impact series is heavily reliant on preset combos like many 3D fighters. Transitioning from playing 2D KOF and switching to Maximum Impact isn't that simple... not like say one would from playing 2D SF and attepting to play SF EX series. But I do agree that its a very fun game especially 2006/MI2. I have every release of Maximum Impact ever made, and 2006/MI2 is by far the best.

What's wrong with the newer ones?

The first 2 installments don't really take themselves all too seriously in providing a balanced fighting experience. Its pretty obvious the games were designed with the casual market in mind. What it lacked in finely tuned gameplay, more than made up for in plenty of single player content via numerous game modes and a ton of unockables that only a true SNK diehard would perhaps appreciate. Regulation A was simply SNKP's attempt at making the Maximum Impact series viable for the arcade scene. As a result, the game was heavily altered to reflect that goal. Gameplay is a tad slower, team play is put in place by default which I personally feel doesn't fit as well with this particular spinoff of KoF. Since MI2 was used as a base for Regulation A, a TON of features were discarded. I own the PS2 port of the latter and it feel like a stripped off version of 06/MI2. 75% of every characters alternate costumes were removed, Stages removed. No unlockable content, No additional modes of play, No mini games, Not even a story mode. The only exclusive feature Regulation A offers over MI2 is the additional 4 characters added to the roster (Ash Crimson, Blue Mary, Xia Lon, and Mizuguchi). Well at least the games intro is as dope as MI2, yet not as epic or ambitious. MI2 should have never been designed for the arcade scene. It's purpose should have stayed in focusing on to home consumer market. Hope that clear it up for you

Ehrgeiz was awesome. I loved that SQUARE made a fighting game. Well, that, and the special attack by holding down the button -- Cloud's was great!
