Neo Geo X - Any good?

Post by jbeedham »

Looking for some thoughts on the Neo Geo X. Is it worth it? Looking for a potential console for play while on Night Shift.

No.

I mean.. it depends on what you're expecting, if you're going to jailbreak it, how much you're paying for it, etc etc... but the short version is above

Yes and no to be short.

If you want it just for the supplied games and the added bundle package from them, depends on what you want from it, but in general, no (especially without their firmware ugprade due to errors.)

If you were to pay for a dongle that's out there that allows busting it wide open to run whatever you like, yes, but the price isn't really low on it.

my opinion: Neo Geo games are available on all kinds of platforms. I have a bunch on Steam for instance which have the benefit of online co-op which the NGX does not offer.

I actually bought a NGX arcade stick to use on my PC. I took it out of the box, felt how cheap it was, put it back in the box and sold it without ever even using it. So there's that.

Agreed, last year later into it humble bundle had a non-suck bundle for once, it was like nearly 20 Neo Geo games with stand alone installer/emulator packages with the unencrypted ROMs just sitting there. Even if you want to be a weenie about the emulator you get to buy the ROM package for pennies considering the minimal donation needed to get all tiers was under $10.

Haha!

Honestly, it's not horrible - if you don't already own any other Neo Geo stuff. Otherwise, I'd stay away.
