Other PC Engine Accessories

by TheRev Wed Mar 12, 2014 11:31 am

I got my Qanba Q4RAF about a week ago and the best time I've had with it so far was playing Super Star Soldier on my PS3. It was the best experience I'd ever had playing any PC Engine game (Emulated granted but none the less) But that got me thinking about the PC Engine it self and it's accessories. I saw a few in the TG 16 101 guide but I have a feeling that is the tip of the ice berg and made this thread to disccuss 1st and 3rd party accessories and figure out if the PC Engine it self ever got anything as good as the stick I was playing Super Star Soldier with.

Our TG-16 article here at RB covers a lot of the accessories for th TG-16, and some for the PCE. Check that out first.

There aren't any of the JPN joysticks in the beginners guide, but there were a few. Not many, but a few. Frankly, the basic pad was pretty darn accurate. One of the better pads out there, IMO.

I did mention the guide in my initial post. I am curious as to what is out there. Information on them is pretty sparse.

I just have standard controllers, multitaps, and a turbo stick for both my TG16 and PCE. Like Marurun said, the standard controller is just excellent, but the Turbo Stick is kinda like the Advantage, it just makes some games better.

My mistake, Rev. I could have read a little more closely.

If you have a TG-16 instead of a PC Engine, reread my entry for the TurboStick. If you liked the NES Advantage, the TurboStick will be very comfortable to you. I used to use it, sitting slouched and reclined, by clutching it to my abdomen. Not a good way to hold it for fighters, but great for shooters and other action games. Also, comfy, if not good for my posture.

Here are a couple threads over at pcenginefx.com that discuss the best sticks for the PC. Be warned, they are a little pricey to import. Might be good to consider getting a custom built one with arcade parts.

Yeah, right now my PC engine is my Japanese PSN account a small cache of the goodness is on there (Got Winds of Thunder yesterday) But this knowledge will serve me well should I get a PC Engine.

I know hori did a few pads for the PC Engine and there are some Sticks but I don't know much about the stuff that came out for it post SFII CE. I imagine there are a few 6 button sticks floating around.

There's the Hori PC Fighting Stick. It is similar to the other early Hori sticks for SNES, Saturn, and PS1 as far as parts go.

I think I once saw a PC Engine stick that doubled as a multitap. Two birds with one stone!
