Guide to Re-Releases with DLC for X360, PS3, & WiiU *UPDATE*

Hello all,

I feel it is now time for me to contribute to this site by putting together a useful guide for the future. As this generation comes to a close and my experience in gaming and collecting increases, I believe I should do something helpful with the knowledge that I’ve obtained and make a nice list to help others with their gaming and collecting.

Objective: To create and maintain a list of re-released games that include DLC or other digital items that did not come with the vanilla release or that cost extra otherwise. This guide was created with the gamer in mind who would like to share the disc containing DLC or if there is an internet issue in the future (services shutdown or other issue) and would like to play said content.

Criteria: A re-release that includes a separate disc other than the “Play” disc; A physical release of a piece of DLC that does not require the original game; An all inclusive re-release that comes all on one or so discs, no install needed. I have also included games that were exclusively digital and have made it into the physical space. Please note: I have not included any re-releases that involves entering a code. The reason why is that codes either expire or the service to download the DLC is taken offline.

Xbox 360:

This is where my expertise lies as I have all of the games listed below. Any game I don’t have will be mark with an asterisk. The reason why the Xbox 360 has the advantage over the PlayStation 3 with respect to these types of re-releases is simply that everything, for the most part, comes on a separate disc. This means that disc sharing is a possibility; that alone is my reason for creating this guide.

Batman Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition

Notes: This is the most comprehensive re-release on this list to date. This includes the entire Borderlands franchise with every piece of DLC split between six discs. Due to disc space limitations it does not follow the “one DLC disc per game” tune. Each DLC disc includes different pieces of DLC from different games. The good thing is that it does not require the game disc for any of the discs. For Borderlands 2, this includes 6 pieces of DLC not included in the Game of The Year edition released earlier. This content is a second Upgrade Pack and all five of the Headhunter Mission packs. This re-release is the only way to get those pieces of DLC mentioned, and The Pre-Sequel DLC in physical form.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut

Notes: You can select what to install. This release includes about 8 hours of commentary, a behind the scenes video, improved visuals, New Game+, overhaul of the boss battles, and lastly, the Missing Link is now integrated into the story rather than a side story that was selectable from the main menu. With regard with the vanilla release, the DLC story integration included in the Director’s Cut may not be present in the vanilla release. Unknown if you can select the Missing Link from the menu or you must play the story out until you get to the part where Missing Link takes place. I will test this out.

Notes: There are two releases of this game. You need to look for specially marked copies of the game. The copy with the second disc has a marking on it that says it includes the DLC disc. Keep this in mind when hunting. On top of the included DLC, the second disc also has behind the scenes videos and some concept art.

Mass Effect Trilogy

Notes: Where may I begin: The Xbox 360 version has the poorest support from the “re-release” stand point. It is a five disc set that includes the three Mass Effect games, assumingly patched to the latest release. It does include DLC however these two pieces of DLC are now free: The Cerberus Network, and the Online Pass for Mass Effect 2 and 3 respectively via a code card. These were not free at one point as they were used as a second hand market deterrent. So basically it does not come with DLC at all. Both need to be downloaded from Xbox Live and if you don’t have an internet connection you will not have access to the actual free DLC that were released for the games. I understand this goes against the theme of this guide but when you head over to the PS3 section you will see why it is included. Oh, it’s got Kinect support for Mass Effect 3.

Notes: This is a compilation of three XBLA games released over the course of the Xbox 360’s life. They were only released on the Xbox 360 therefore making it exclusive to the console. This physical compilation is exclusive to the Xbox 360 as well. Lumines Live! is based off of the original PSP game but has been enhanced with 720p, 5.1 surround sound, and other exclusive content. Rex HD is based on the Dreamcast game with higher resolution and increased sound capabilities. E4 is an expanded version of the PSP game but with 1080i support, 5.1 surround sound, and exclusive content. Having these games in physical form is highly recommended.

Having these games in physical form is highly recommended.

PlayStation 3

This section will be about the PlayStation 3. I don’t have many games for the system here but I will do my best with assumptions as to how the DLC is handled. The way it is handled is simple: it is a single disc with all of the DLC and main game on one single Blu-ray disc. When you pop in the disc the PS3 will recognize the disc as usual but an extra option will open up under the normal “Play Game” option in the XMB Game Menu. It will give you the option to install the DLC then you can select “Play Game” and proceed as normal. I have no way of testing if the DLC included will work with the vanilla release of the game via disc sharing. Formatting of the guide will be different but generally the same information will be given.

Notes: This is the most comprehensive re-release on this list to date. This includes the entire Borderlands franchise with every piece of DLC split between two discs. One disc has all three games on it and the second disc has all of the DLC listed above. You can pop in the send disc first and install all of it or whichever piece you want if you're short on disc space. For Borderlands 2, this includes 6 pieces of DLC not included in the Game of The Year edition released earlier. This content is a second Upgrade Pack and all five of the Headhunter Mission packs. This re-release is the only way to get those pieces of DLC mentioned, and The Pre-Sequel DLC in physical form.

Notes: Quite a bit better here for the PS3 release. This is the best version of the series over the PC and Xbox 360 counterparts in terms of included content. It does include two other pieces DLC however these two pieces of DLC are now free: The Cerberus Network, and the Online Pass for Mass Effect 2 and 3 respectively via a code card. These were not free at one point as they were used as a second hand market deterrent. Both need to be downloaded from the PSN Store and if you don’t have an internet connection you will not have access to the actual free DLC that was released for the games. This is the only way to play the first Mass Effect game. EA, you have done great with Dragon Age: Origins. You could have done better here.

Notes: This comes in a slipcase over the disc case. The DLC on disc can actually be installed through 3 different languages: English, Spanish and French. Ah the power of Blu-ray! If using the XMB install function in conjunction with the vanilla release of the game, it may require an update to 1.9 which is the last update.

Nintendo Wii U

Yes. Nintendo Wii U. It actually has a small handful of games that would fit the scope of this guide and I own four of these games so I will list them here. Nintendo uses a proprietary disc that has 25 GB of space so in this case the content that was considered DLC for the PS3 and Xbox 360 releases are integrated into the game seamlessly. This is good since 32 GB is the most one can get on a Wii U without external drives.

Let’s get it done.

Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition
- What is included in the package:
o Main Game
o Catwoman Pack
o Nightwing Bundle Pack
o Robin Bundle Pack
o Arkham City Skins Pack
o Batman Inc. Batsuit Skin
o Challenge Map Pack
o Harley Quinn's Revenge
o Battle Armored Tech (B.A.T.) Mode
o Armored Suits for both Batman and Catwoman
Notes: The last two items are Wii U exclusive. B.A.T. is one of those typical charging power ups where you click in some button combo after getting hit or hitting other to do more damage for a set period of time. The Armored Suits are cosmetic but looks pretty cool.

Notes: This release includes about 8 hours of commentary, a behind the scenes video, improved visuals, New Game+, overhaul of the boss battles, and lastly, the Missing Link is now integrated into the story rather than a side story that was selectable from the main menu. Some Wii U Pad specific controller functions have been added and it take a bit of getting used to.

Notes: That is a lot of stuff! Not really. Resurgence, Rebellion and Earth were free DLC for the other consoles and were geared towards multiplayer. For this release Multiplayer is nowhere near as active and perhaps no longer available. The M-597, N7 Warfare and AT-12 are weapons and armor packs for the single player game. Extended Cut was free and From Ashes was a Collector’s Edition DLC or paid for standard edition. Genesis 2 was also paid DLC and is necessary to gather some story from the first and second game in the series as well as making key choices. Still overall it isn’t too bad. No other DLC for the game was ever released for the Wii U.

Its is a fantastic game. One of the best stealth games I've played in quite some time. Granted I kill everything in sight you can choose to go non-lethal for the most part.

I also added pictures so that if one day anyone sees these variants they can get the most out of the purchase.

I am not sure that the list there is complete - and it certainly does not include games from the previous generation like Elder Scrolls III or Ninja Gaiden Black - but you might want to cross-reference it when you are constructing your list.

Wow seems like a lot of stuff there. Well I will continue to expand this list with what I have. I can do some Xbox stuff like Morrowind and Fable the Lost Chapters which I have. I can include those on the next update as well as a few PS3 games I own. I don't want to copy that verbatim.

Borderlands 2 and Halo 4 are the two I'm looking at next myself.

I was surprised - no Arkham Origins GOTY or definitive release? I wonder if they'll do a huge Batman compilation for PS4/XBO that includes everything.

I hope this is a complete collection of all MG games for current gen and PC. However, they would have had to totally remake MGS4 from the ground up because of the PS3 architecture from what I understand.
