Narrow the search as such:

console: PS2
country: USA
title: edition

This will bring up every game with "edition" in the title (special edition, limited edition, etc) and each game's page has the SLUS #.

Name the Generic Covers at the bottom. Sorry no prizes, a test your knowledge. The cover answers are at the top of the fourth page in this thread, no peeking!

A Reminder
Most Special Editions are the very same SKU as regular releases at Gamestop. The thrill of the hunt of discovering the exclusive at a great price! If a game is rare, especially with an extra soundtrack, its best NOT to call. Check the Gamestop website for store availability and drive there yourself. Time is against the game collector since Gamestop is throwing out the cases and manuals of under $9.99 PS2 games.

Gamestop Employee wrote:"The extra bonus discs are normally not accepted, they usually get tossed."

Add as many as you can. Any game that has Bonus Extra Discs, Special Edition Single Disc Games with Extra Content, 2 Disc Games and Cases, Custom Cases and Custom Covers. Please add a brief description of what is unique over the game's original regular release. I'll add it to the list above.

I'll start the Special Editions List. Here are two games that have a Greatest Hits bonus update:

Greatest Hits Midnight Club 3
Extra cars and an additional city.

Greatest Hits Silent Hill 2
Contains additional UFO ending and Born From a Wish scenario.

"Special Edition" Greatest Hits
While Greatest Hits titles are usually just a reprinting of the original game with altered packaging and a lower price, occasionally a game is given a "special edition" of its original version, released under the Greatest Hits label. Usually these additions are small bonuses, such as the inclusion of bugfixes, new game demos or soundtrack CDs, or slight improvements such as adding analog control or vibration functionality to games that did not have these features in their original releases. Occasionally, significant changes are implemented into the game. Noteworthy examples of this are the Greatest Hits special editions of PS2 Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, PS2 Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, PS3 Heavy Rain, PS2 Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition, PS3 Midnight Club Los Angeles, PS2 Silent Hill 2 and PS2 Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution, which were enhanced significantly from their original releases with added characters, levels, modes, features, etc. However, "Special Edition" enhancements such as these are typically uncommon in Greatest Hits releases.

http://www.gamesradar.com/the-top-7-steps-to-becoming-a-videogame-snob/?page=7

And finally, the ultimate in gaming snobbery - the collection. Do you have to keep all your games in their original boxes for them to be considered "complete?" Or is just owning the game enough for you? For us mega elitist ogres, however, there is no greater bane than the greatest hits reissue

Some people don't care about that bright green/red/yellow/silver banner that runs across the box screaming "LOOK NOW I'M CHEAP AND OLD!" Others, like us, avoid it at all costs. A few of us will even refuse to buy games solely because they're only available as Greatest Hits (the outstanding Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution comes to mind). If you really want to dig, we could comment on specially colored cartridges (NES Zelda, SNES Doom and N64 The World is Not Enough ) and their vast preference over regular old black or gray carts, but you probably get the idea by now.

Even "Game of the Year" re-releases bother some of us. If it's not the original packaging, you can keep it. To have all our PS2 games lined up on a shelf with one or two slivers of red jutting out at our eyeballs from 50 paces is just too much to bear. Other titles, like Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix, and the ultimate example, the aforementioned Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution, have enough tweaked or even brand new content in them to warrant a purchase, but would perhaps have to be kept somewhere else.

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas 2004 Release (Hot Coffee Content)
Watch for the original initial release for the Hot Coffee Mod version. This game was recalled and got the Cold Coffee Fix. Look for the disc that does not have "SECOND EDITION" stamped under the "M" rating logo.

Guess the Generic Cover Inserts

1st JPG Attachment
This empty case was given to me at yet another Gamestop location. This is what I like about original game cases, for the memory card holder. The game was missing, so I got this nice two disc case free. Usually the second disc holder is missing. I finally found this game complete, posted at the bottom of this OP.

The evolution of Generic covers on game cases. I know two of them, but didn't know where the other two came from or which one is the oldest. Two of them got the names covered up, be careful, the quick answer might not be all the way correct.

Guess what store each case came from?

1. Yellow (Twisted Metal) - ?
2. Green (Katamari Damacy) - ?
3. Blue (Kim Possible) - ?
4. Blue (Sky Odyssey) - ?

Hint
The middle green case has Manga art and is very common. If I really am stuck with a generic case, I prefer the color coded blue cover on the right of the Manga art case. XBox got a similiar Green case, the colors actually make sense.

The first question is also a fact finding hunt. I am trying to compile a list of ALL PS2 games that came with two discs. These include bonus demo discs, music, movies, Prima guides on disc or an out right two game discs required as some games in the Gamecube line.

As for the Generic covers I know positively where two came from. The other two case covers, I am vaguely sure but trying to find an absolute confirmation. I'll post an updated pic with the names after the right answers are guessed. The answers are at the top of page four.

The cover in the two disc case in the 1st pic:
Resident Evil Code:Veronica 5th Anniversary Edition with hard to find Devil May Cry bonus demo disc. There is the Original, Greatest Hits, a Three Pack and this one. Four different versions!

Finally found a complete version!

PS2 Resident Evil Code Veronica X 5th Anniversary - $6.99
http://www.gamestop.com/ps2/games/resident-evil-code-veronica-x/4639
Blah! Ha! Ha! Ha! I have been visiting ten Gamestops continuously over five months, so many single disc versions of this game out there. I finally found this game with the extra bonus Capcom disc. There are actually four different versions of PS2 Code Veronica X. The Black Original, Red Greatest Hits, This beautiful 5th Anniversary edition and a Euro Three Pack. The beauty of this one is the double disc case and the very hard to find Devil May Cry Bonus Demo Disc! I can now relieve Veronica from the Dreamcast version with new features. Ah, the good old Tank Controls. The Devil May Cry demo is tempting me to reinstall the full versions again.

2 Disc games that spring to mind

Silent Hill 3 (w/ soundtrack)
Persona 4 (w/ soundtrack)
Eternal Poison (w/ soundtrack)
Final Fantasy XII collector's edition
God of War II (w/ bonus dvd)
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
Soulcalibur III (some have a marketing demo disc, as do other Namco games)
Zone of the Enders (w/ Metal Gear Solid 2 demo)

I've managed to collect a lot of these because I like to double up sequels into single DVD cases, then put the bonus disc into a CD binder.
