Quick reference guide to the history of Platform Adventures

by PresidentLeever Mon Feb 04, 2019 2:57 am

aka Metroidvanias/Castleroids aka Sidescrolling Action Adventures aka Open World Platformers. Each game entry lists defining features relating to the genre and links to more info in the form of playthroughs and reviews. I consider the 80s and early 90s pages to be about 80% done so far and am currently working on the mid-late 90s pages. I'm not sure how or even if to cover the 00s-10s, I might cut it off around the late 00s to keep it focused on the earlier history of the genre which is what I was interested in documenting in the first place. But we'll see what happens and I can always come back to it later on. The site itself should explain the rest, if it doesn't then let me know. :)

And I know Jeremy Parish is doing a similar project with lenghty videos on YT but I wanted to do my own take on it.

dude, this is fantastic! Great job. Bookmarking so I can spend some time getting fully lost in here when I have a bit more time. But the layout is great. Super impressed.

Thanks very much! It was simple to make (just time consuming to edit a bunch of artwork) but yeah I'm pretty happy with this look. Only thing missing is a search feature, which isn't free on weebly.

Just embed a Google Search box customized to just search your Weebly site.

Added one. Do you know how long it takes for a new site to register on search engines?

No clue. It's all up to how long it takes their spider to get back around to you.

Excellent reference my dude. I love this genre, this will give me a lot to mull over.

(btw there's a prequel to Castle Excellent that's simply called The Castle)

Glad you're enjoying it! I had mistaken The Castle as being identical to Castle Excellent, will have to take a proper look at those later.
