Should have cancelled Fallout 76.

But yeah, some footage and concept art of the original Doom 4 is floating around. Think they even admitted themselves it was going to be a CoD styled venture:

Thank goodness that was canned.

I like Doom 3 a lot, but yeah it's flawed like Quake 4, Rage... etc.

Doom 3 is like better compared to Bioshock honestly and it has tremendous atmosphere/sound design that holds up really well, along with the engine still looking pretty sexy with the BFG edition. But yeah, "Bioshock" isn't what one would normally expect going into Doom haha. Doom 64 is arguably a more "true" Doom 3, same formula as the originals but with a complete facelift.

Yeah, it's the BFG edition. Weird that one seemed to get worse reviews than the original, yet most people seem to say it's the best version.

Now what a game Doom 64 is! I bought it last year and it quickly became one of my favourite N64 games.

BFG edition came out 8 years later. I mean, games are reviewed, at least in part, in the context of their peers and the scene at the time. Doom 3 BFG edition may have been better, but it was still a re-hash of an 8-year-old game.

I do get that, but it seemed to gain a lot of criticism for some of the changes and alterations they made, despite the fact most people seem to suggest the changes made are for the better and are not detrimental, as opposed to it just being a port of an older game that has aged.

Yeah, I don't get it either haha. I will never touch the original Doom 3 ever again. In fact, pretty sure I used the infamous "duct tape" mod when I first played it anyways... which put your flashlight on the guns I believe.

The other subtle changes upgrades that I know of, I think the ammo cap is way higher, you can sprint for a lot longer, and there's checkpoints! The original game had no checkpoints whatsoever, so if you never manually saved you were out of luck...

Reprise has good taste in N64 games I see.

Want a nice reason to re-run it off system? Doom64 EX. Takes the WAD data of the n64 rom, makes a clean new file, and injects it into the created program for it, and you can play it on Windows/Linux format instead. Better resolution, better gamma since the game was accidentally too dark, and other little options but nothing to dirty the game into something it isn't. A nice remaster, not a remake.

Doom3 BFG being brought up, one thing I would love to see very much since the precedent was created would be that game on Nintendo Switch. Sure you'd get a lot of entitled whiners droning on about old ports, but the game had a Tegra only android version made of it (which I have) and it really is stunning. I'd love to have that on the go, if anything more for Ultimate Doom and D2, but still all around I'd welcome it.

Thanks for the EX plug. I never got any n64 emulation running in any HD I'd wanna attempt to play. I'm going to finally experience Doom 64!

True story, I never really played Doom 64 on the N64 itself. :P

Absolution was the original port from years back, but yeah EX is the best one now and it feels perfect. The irony is how Doom 64 holds up better than other N64 shooters, since it still used the pseudo 3D style with 2D sprites and textures.

64 has awesome and weird level design ideas you don't really see much in the originals. It's also pretty tough! Hell Knight's quickly become like the normal enemy goomba in the back half haha.

I've only ever played oXbox DOOM 3, but I remember reviews panning the BFG autosave feature. Players were getting stuck bc the game saved them after a checkpoint with little health or ammo. I know on the oXbox port, I've had to revert back to old (but not too far back) saves after getting in precarious situations. Can the autosave hurt you in BFG or was this getting blown out of proportion?

Doom 64 is awesome. Emulates just fine. IIRC music composer went on to make PSX DOOM soundtrack known for the ambient feel. While I prefer the original tunes, it does give PSX DOOM a unique feel.

Click the above link for all the info you need, but to sum it up... It will be released as a free megawad, but there's also a limited physical release with extra goodies. Preorders for the physical release ended in December 2018, and I don't know if it will be available outside the preorder. The megawad consists of 9 single player levels and 9 deathmatch levels.

I'm kinda pissed that I only just found out about this since the preorders are already closed. I would have loved to preorder the basic edition. There's no info that I can find whether it will be available outside of the preorders.

This is huge. It's like Miyamoto deciding to release World 9 for Super Mario Bros. 3.
