I've had that pre-ordered for a couple months, haha. RE is love, RE is life. Except RE5. Fuck that noise.

Honestly confused to why they advertise Zero as giving birth to the survival horror genre?

So I got a copy of resident evil for the Saturn. Kind of played a little of it but I don't want to get too deep because I have no battery or memory card for it

I think RE is the greatest franchise to survive the PS1 era, bar none, and if I were to rank the games in my order of preference, I would say this:

RE1
RE:Code Veronica
RE4
RE5
RE2+RE3
RE0
REvalations
Umbrella and Darkside Chronicles
Operation Raccoon City
RE6
REvalations 2

To elaborate on the top 5:

RE1 (not REmake) is a masterpiece. The moldy cheese on the VO work, the freak out scene that everyone remembers with the first zombie, the dogs, running out of ribbons on the first playthrough (okay, maybe that's just me), finally getting the magnum and feeling like a BAMF, I just love it. It's a realistic(ish) 3D super Metroid with zombies and keys rather than aliens and ball-mode. When REmake came with the extra fluff and polish, I just couldn't get into it, it felt like the features that made the game what it was were swept under the rug, or that they seemed to try to.

RE2 and 3 I can take or leave. They're just as good in many ways as RE1, and some would say better, but I just didn't feel like they really "clicked" like RE1. I think for me, it just felt like they were less focused and the motivations were thinner than in the first game, with sprawling enviornments that really . Nothing stands out here for me besides Nemesis, and that was only because he seemed to ruined the flow of the game in my view.

Code Veronica is probably my second favorite entry, for the same reasons I think 2 and 3 fall down the list. You wake up in a creepy jail where you immediately know everything has gone wrong. Claire is still looking for Chris, but this time the danger and motivation are right there in her face. Priority one is to get out, and that is reinforced as you progress into a weirder and more dangerous enemies, which are a big part of what makes this game stand out for me. The backgrounds finally catch up to PS1 Dino Crisis by being 3D (I think), and the game overall feels more focused as you go from one clear set of objectives to the next. Plus it has a great supporting character in Steve, right up there with Barry.

RE4 showed how well survival horror could be coupled with action, and it really blazed a new trail (oddly, I can't think of one true successor for it). It didn't feel much like RE, but it was so good, no one seemed to care. The bosses were the centerpiece for me, and the controls made it all work. It's a rare game that makes an escort mission fun. Plus all the bonus content on the PS2 and Wii really made it sing.

I love RE5. my wife and I have probably logged 100 hours on both the PS3 and 360 versions, it's the best couch-co-op game I've played...ever!? Though when you play solo it really is a let down, especially if you have experienced it with a capable partner. It's also a departure from the RE formula, even from 4 which was more action-oriented, which is always going to tick fans off. I think that shock is where most of the hate stems from.

A few people have said that RE5 is just a generic action game with RE tacked on, but I disagree. The RE story(ish-thing) is so deeply ingrained into the game, I really don't think it would be the same without it. Umbrella Chronicles and even RE4 may fall under that umbrella (sorry) more than most other games, but not this one.

Plus, the game ends with the line "Suck on this, Wesker," Come on!

Excellent write up chuckster! I agree with most of your thoughts there.

I can't wait to finally get the Wii version of RE4 someday. I will have no issues with owning 4 versions of that game.

I also imported the PS3 release of HD REmake, but still might go ahead and get the REmake/Zero HD collection on the PS4.

I still can't help but quadruple dip for classic Capcom titles.

Nice and interesting chuckster!
Just picked up RE4 Wii and one of my favorites when I played on GameCube, looking to get the Origins collection once I pick up a PS4. The last I've played was Revelations and kept dying on the part were its snowy and the wolves are relentless since I'm hurt on the ground getting attacked from all angles.

So far my order of faves:
RE1 & Directors Cut
RE2
RE4
RE5

I own most of the series except for Zero, Revelations 2, Code Veronica which I had at one time so I'll have to play a bunch more also really wanna play Operation City just not sure if solo or join online?

Can I still get cheerleader Rebecca in Zero HD? I might replay it for that. Otherwise... that's bottom of the barrel for me.

we watched RE Apocalypse tonight. Enjoyed it. I liked that Jill was in it. I liked Nemesis. It was def fun. My wife actually said she preferred it to the first movie. I liked it a lot but still preferred the first movie.

My order (only going by the standard game style, excluding Operation Raccoon City, Mercenaries 3D, Umbrella Chronicles, and Darkside Chronicles) would probably be:

Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil: Revelations
Resident Evil (Remake)
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil 0
Resident Evil: Deadly Silence
Resident Evil: Revelations 2
Resident Evil: Survivor
Resident Evil 6
Resident Evil: Outbreak File 2
Resident Evil: Outbreak
Resident Evil 5
