Splinter Cell Blacklist

Having just finished the PS3 version of Blacklist, I can safely say that the series is back to form, which isn't necessarily the greatest thing because I felt it was too easy to zip through the campaign once I got into the "groove" after Conviction's unfastidious approach. I have been saving the online mode for last but the local side-missions were fewer than I would have liked. I liked being given the choice to non-lethally finish the main missions even though you can be put in a tough spot every now and then, but after it's over I have little reason to go back except to try out the Mercs mode. I still personally miss the atmospheric design of Chaos Theory and how light-sourcing contributed to the quasi-invincibility Sam Fisher had lurking in techno-infused shadows. On the story-telling side it's all the usual Tom Clancy fodder but it did have a few tense moments that pull you in at just the right moment.

I can't be that good, as the game felt very straightforward despite the options provided. Maybe stealth-based gameplay has limited potential after all.. Thief could prove me wrong hopefully.

I am about 4 or 5 missions in. I on the other hand found conviction to be the first game in the series I could stomach, I find Blacklist plays fairly similar to it, at least compared to earlier entries in the series.

Regardless, very enjoyable thus far.

I'm glad someone's talking about this game. I'm playing through the older SC games right now. I beat Chaos Theory last week (and found it to be the best game so far). I'm gonna start on Double Agent tomorrow.

How does SC Blacklist fare without Michael Ironside doing the voice of Sam? I also heard there's no SC-20K this time? No night vision either? To me it seems like it's gonna miss a lot of what makes the series so great. But again, I'm just playing the older stuff now. DA is gonna have to do a lot to top CT.

Nightvision is there, as well as sonar. DA is where the "daylight" segments crept in, and I found the change of scenery jarring back then. The Ironside issue irked me at first but as the game progressed I sort-of moved on. It's down to personal taste really and how much you're attached to the character. I can easily imagine a new Snake voice-actor though.

Daytime? That's gonna be a huge, and I mean HUGE change there. I'm finding the "choose a side" feature that it promises to be really fun though. It's gonna take a lot to top CT in my book however. Each game does seem to get better.

What version are you guys playing? I might pick up the 360 version here soon.
I'm still not sure whether I'm a kid or a squid now.

This game looks kind of fun. Keeping it on my to-buy-on-sale list.

When I get to the generation that this game is in, I'll be there. But damn, if Double Agent hasn't drawn me in by the end of the very first mission already. Hell of a story. Can't wait to get deeper into this.

Never played Splinter Cell before, would that be a problem if I decide to play this one at some point?
