Grand Theft Auto V
Re: Grand Theft Auto V
just saw the credits roll, clocked in about 38 hours total so far. It says I am 79% done, there are a hand full of side missions to still do, and I didn't really do any of the "activities" such as golf, tennis, skydiving, etc... Its been a while since I was this sucked into a game and played it through so quickly. Very satisfied with it, and has to be my favorite game this year.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
I am about half way done with the story I think, but I keep getting sidetracked. The online was released today but it sound like it is a mess just trying to log on.
Fun game so far. But if you've played one Grand Theft Auto you've played them all. Nothing ground breaking with this game and honestly I think it suffered from "GTA overhype". As it stands now I'll probably end up giving it a 8/10. Nothing near GOTY material, IMO.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
The online is still a mess close to a week on. Logged on before to find my character gone and asked to create a new one. And that's when the servers are up and running, if they aren't you get bounced around random instances with a different avatar each time. Spent two hours trying to just get into the same game as my buddy.
I get that GTA:O is a ambitious project, but this is a real mess. It is unplayable, in the very definition of the word. It also raises some concerns with regards the future of online console games and cloud based servers.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
I tried once to play online, it booted me right after I made my character, and I didn't try again. After reading about how bad it is all over the net, I think I will stay away from it completely. By the time its all sorted out and stable, I will have moved on to other games (in fact, I have already). I had been looking forward to the online mode, but it was just in addition to the single player, which was great.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
My order got lost in the mail and since this was being shipped from the UK I had to wait for 3 weeks to make a claim :/. Now I'm waiting for my refund to go and buy it for like 15€ more. It sucks but honestly I just want the game now so I prefer this over them shipping me another copy (which they couldn't anyway cause they are sold out)

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
(Double post rez spell).
I finally caved in and bought the game at retail full price (haven't done that in maaaaaany years). I traded in some useless games I didn't want to lessen the blow to my wallet.
So far I'm quite impressed. THe game is muuuuuuuuuuuuuch better than GTA IV and probably better than the Saint's Row series. All the missions have somehting unique to do and they are all memorable. Even the single escort mission I did, had you do something crazy (the one with the pickup truck and the house on the hill).
I haven't tried GTA Online yet. Should I wait till I beat the game? Are there any bonuses from the online game I can take to the single player games?
Also how do you get tips for stocks? I bought lifeinvader stocks cause they were low and I thought they were sure to rebound like real life facebook stocks
but...
Also I love Franklin's special power and I wish more racing games had something like that. It's awesome

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Saints Row and GTA aren't really comparable any more, they've gone different directions with it.
There's no reason to wait on GTA Online if you want to dive in.

True but I didn't like the new direction, so I am comparing it with the first 2 games in the series which I liked.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Most of the people I play GTA: Online with haven't completed the story mode.
As for stocks, Franklin gets missions where he has to assassinate prominent businessmen, bankers, etc. Doing so lowers the stock of the company the target worked for, and raises the stock of said company's rival. So pop some money into the rival before knocking off the mark and you'll get a profit.
Outside of the assassination missions you can manipulate stock by say destroying a lot of one company's planes and having shares in a rival.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
OMG this game is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo fucking good. SOOOOO GOOD. I LOVE it. The missions are amazing. Every single one of them is unique and there are sooooooo many memorable missions. It's damn amazing.
I also don't understand the complaints abou the characters. Franklin is the only one I would be ok with being replaced. But Michael and Trevor are so interesting and make for such a great story. Is Trevor a monster? Yes. But that's what makes him an interesting character to watch.
