Games like Donkey Kong?
Re: Games like Donkey Kong?
Don Doko Don. A Taito arcade game. Probably the best in the "genre", if you can call it that. Was ported to PCE and Famicom. The Famicom sequel is a side-scrolling platformer that's OK, but not the same kind of game.

you mean Fix-it Feelix. The game Wreck It Ralph is a platformer like SMB.

Nice replies all...
Wrecking Crew would work. I'm not dead set on jumping as a requirement. Platforming to me = moving from platform to platform. I probably haven't played the game in about 20 years so I should reacquaint myself.
Heard of 'em, haven't played 'em. Just did an eBay check. Just as I feared - they are cassettes.
I've actually been working on Bomb Jack for some time. I've heard it has 18 stages before it loops, I've made it to stage 10 or so. As with many old arcade games, it's 1CC-or-gtfo.
Lode Runner I know by name but, embarrassingly, have never played.
As for the Egg, I've never heard of it. Looks to be European?
I have played this and enjoyed it, but have yet to finish it.
I don't really consider it a DK-style game though, as the objective is to defeat enemies before moving to the next stage rather than reaching a goal/collecting items.
Taito actually has a couple of other lesser-known Bubble Bobble/Rainbow Islands-esque games: Chack'n Pop and The Fairyland Story. Though you've probably already heard of these if you know of Doko Doko Don.
Also: is Fix-It-Felix even a real game or are yous guys joking?
Keep 'em coming!

Those are incredibly popular old games over here in the UK. Have you played them before? I feel if any American on the forum has, it's probably you.

I'd second Crystal Castles. Arcade or 2600, I'm a big fan.
Bomb Jack was also a good example.

Yes Bone, Fix it Felix is actually a real game. And what is even crazier is that Disney even made arcade cabinets for it, for their theme parks.

Could be why I endorse them, right? They do fit your description for single-screen action.
