Didn't even think about Lode Runner, but holy shit, "The Legend Returns"/"Mad Monks Revenge" is one of my favorite games ever. Oh, and it's free.

It might not work on your computer, but there is a fix for windows 7/8:

I will post my little game later. It's PC only fyi.

Just remembered Jetpack for DOS. I used to love that game and I had a great time with the level creator many years ago. It's also free these days.

It's basically Lode Runner with a jetpack.

Why is all this loderunner discussion taking place? It really is nothing like Donkey Kong.

Along the vein of Lode Runner is also the game Jetpack, which is a puzzle platformer and is a blast to play.

There there...
I think Gunstar Green meant that he remembered Jetpack because you mentioned it.

"To be specific these are games that:
- consist of one-screen platforming stages
- generally have a goal of reaching some area of the screen (like the top) or to collect a set number of items before proceeding
- loop after a certain number of levels"

Seems to meet criteria besides the last.
