I like to think he's hibernating inside a Wily Capsule somewhere deep underground, only to emerge when the world is on the brink of destruction...

When I was a kid I figured out it was much better if I could slide/jump and hold a charged shot at the same time. Unfortunately I couldn't hit all the buttons at the same time. So I would hold the remote up to my mouth and press my tongue up against my lower lip to press the slide button. Still do it sometimes to this day.

I just remap the slide to the R button.

That is not nearly as fun though!

Not to mention the finger gymnastics one has to perform with a charge shot and sliding at the same time, a great part of the game.

lol, I grew up mastering that with the SNES/PSX games. I held the controllers differently than any other game... somehow I got really good with it. Dashing is an essential mechanic in these games.

R for dash it the lazy way, but I do that nowadays when I go back to them.
(same with Super Metroid).
